Ramos calls Van Gaal

Sergio Ramos has called Louis van Gaal to reassure him he’s still interested in joining Manchester United, according to reports.

Ramos’ future is up in the air at present after stalling on a contract with Real Madrid, and telling the club he wants to move to Old Trafford.

Things has changed in recent days with Madrid refusing to sell and new talks over a deal, but Don Balon says Ramos has called Louis van Gaal to say he’s still keen on signing for the Red Devils.

It comes amid speculation that Van Gaal is looking at other options for centre back, including Valencia’s all-action Argentine Nicolas Otamendi.

Madrid want £63million at least to sell Ramos and while United are so far refusing to pay that, more negotiations could bring about a successful conclusion to this saga.

Bastian Schweinsteiger pens open to Banyern Fans

'My destination is Man Utd... one last dream' - Schweinsteiger pens open letter to Bayern Munich fans

The Germany midfielder will leave his boyhood club and move to Old Trafford this summer and explained his decision with a message to fans of the Bundesliga outfit

Bastian Schweinsteiger has penned an open letter to Bayern Munich supporters after it was revealed he would be leaving his boyhood club for Manchester United.

The two clubs confirmed on Saturday the Germany international would be leaving the Allianz Arena to join the Red Devils in a deal worth around £12 million.

And Schweinsteiger, who won eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League title with the Bavarians, explained his decision to fans by claiming he wanted to experience life at a different club.

"Dear fans, after 17 incredible years at FC Bayern, 15 national titles, winning the historical triple and uncountable other highlights that I was fortunate enough to experience with my incredible team, all you exceptional fans and the co-workers at Sabener Strasse and Allianz Arena, I have decided to take a new career step," he wrote on his Twitter.

"This decision was very hard to make because you and FCB have, are and will always be an extremely important part of my life.

"Nevertheless, I would like to again gain experience at a new club. My destination is Manchester United. I hope you understand my decision.

"No one can take away the incredible journey we had together. #MiaSanMia."

Pedro rejects Arsenal Move in Favour of Chelsea

Pedro has reportedly been persuaded to join Chelsea over Arsenal by Cesc Fabregas and Jose Mourinho.

The Barcelona winger is considering his future following Arda Turan’s arrival at the Camp Nou, with a move to the Premier League undestood to be among his favoured options.

Arsenal and Liverpool are believed to have made approaches for the 27-year-old, but according to Sport he has agreed to join Chelsea after Mourinho and Fabregas convinced him to do so.

Pedro’s main issue with the move was believed to be his lack of English, but Fabregas has reassured him that it won’t be a problem due to the amount of Spanish speakers in the Chelsea dressing room.

Having agreed a deal with the player, Chelsea will now be able to secure the move by meeting his £21.6million release clause.

Schneiderlin completes United Medical

Manchester United agree Schneiderlin deal

The France international underwent a medical at Carrington on Sunday evening and is set to becomes the Red Devils' fourth signing of a busy summer at Old Trafford

By Paul Clennam     Follow Goal UK on Twitter

Manchester United have agreed a fee with Southampton for midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, Goal can confirm.

The Frenchman underwent a medical at Carrington on Sunday and the deal should be official announced imminently, when he will become the latest big-money arrival in Louis van Gaal's summer overhaul.

Goal revealed that the Red Devils were pushing for a deal in June and have now met Saints' asking price, with the club hopeful he will be included in their squad for the upcoming tour of the United States.

Arsenal and Tottenham have both shown an interest in the 25-year-old in the past 12 months, but it is United who have won the race for his signature.

Schneiderlin will become the Red Devils' fourth summer signing after they completed deals to bring in Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian as well as agreeing a fee with Bayern Munich to add Bastian Schweinsteiger to their squad.

Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin will battle with the likes of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata as United look to improve on their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Schneiderlin played a key role in the Saints qualifying for the Europa League last term as he scored four goals from midfield in his 26 league appearances.

Southampton are reportedly keen to replace the outgoing midfielder with Jordy Clasie after Feyenoord revealed he would not be playing any pre-season matches due to "concrete interest" from another club

Why Robin Van Persie left Man United

Louis van Gaal is no stranger to confrontation and it appears he may be the main reason behind Robin van Persie’s exit this transfer window.

The Dutch boss reportedly forced his compatriot to train on his own, leaving the striker feeling betrayed.

RvP will now join Fenerbahce in a £4.7million deal after being ordered to train on his own while the rest of his team-mates took part in a training match at Carrington on Tuesday.

At that moment, the 31-year-old knew that his time with the club was over, according to the Mirror.

RvP will now head to Turkey (Picture: AP)
Soon after, the Dutch attacker told his agent to accept a lucrative three-year deal with the Turkish giants.

Despite his new £240,000-a-week pay packet, there is a sense of humiliation behind his departure.

LvG is no stranger to falling out with stars (Picture: AP)
The pair were close after enjoying a successful World Cup together with the Dutch national side.

But van Persie felt that van Gaal deliberately humiliated him by delivering the instruction in front of his team-mates rather than giving him a private meeting.

LvG is never one to allow sentiment to cloud his judgement and his brutal disposal of one of his closest colleagues is testament to that.

We will listen to offers from Madrid

Espanyol willing to negotiate with Madrid for Casilla - Collet

The Espanyol president insists Los Blancos' first offer was so small that his side refused to enter any talks with them, but admits they are willing to do so

Espanyol president Joan Collet says the club are willing to enter talks with Real Madrid over Kiko Casilla if they improve on their initial offer.

The Spanish side are looking to bring the goalkeeper back to the Santiago Bernabeu after it was confirmed that Iker Casillas will leave to join Porto.

Casilla's release clause with the Catalan side is €20 million, though Madrid will only have to pay half of that because they own 50 per cent of his rights.

However, the club chief revealed on Twitter that an initial €4m offer from Madrid had been rejected, before telling reporters that he is still open to discussing a transfer with Los Blancos if they make a better offer.

"There has been nothing else from Madrid and the €4m they offered is very little value to the player and the club," he said. "It is a very small figure. If the offer does not change, will not sit and talk with them.

"These clauses are rarely respected. We like it that way, we are open to negotiation.

"We have not negotiated with Madrid, we have not put variables or anything similar on the table.

"He is a player who has played at international level and can do so again."

Real Madrid confirm Casillas to Porto

Real Madrid confirm Casillas to Porto deal

The Spanish goalkeeper ends a 25 year period at the Santiago Bernabeu in order to join the Portuguese side
Real Madrid have confirmed that long-serving captain Iker Casillas will leave the club for Porto.

The goalkeeper had been linked to a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu for some time, with Madrid looking to sign Kiko Casilla from Espanyol and pursuing Manchester United's David de Gea.

The World Cup winning shot stopper had reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Portuguese side, but failure to break from his contract at the capital club was holding the deal back.

Now, though, Los Blancos have revealed that a deal has been struck that will see him bring an end to a glorious career in La Liga.

"Real Madrid and FC Porto have reached a deal on the transfer of Iker Casillas to the Portuguese club," a statement on their official website read.

"The greatest goalkeeper in the history of the club and in the history of Spanish football is moving on to a new stage in his footballing career.

"This goodbye evokes thousands of sensations and memories charged with hope, anticipation, sacrifice, strength and unique triumph.

"Casillas has made our coat of arms even greater. He has been our captain and has forged his legend here since he arrived as a child at just nine years of age.

Manchester United to Resign Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United are ready to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid next season, according to reports.

Madrid are currently evaluating Ronaldo’s future at the club and it’s claimed that they’d consider letting him go – but not until next season.

Paris Saint Germain are sniffing around a deal, but the Daily Express says United are ready to rival them and hope to do business.

Madrid are thought to want about £66.5million for their leading light, who would be 31 next summer and approaching the twilight of his career.

Ronaldo has previously refused to rule out returning to Old Trafford in the future, but any move would be absolutely incredible

Manchester United eyes De Gea Replacement

Manchester United have opened talks with Atletico Madrid to sign goalkeeper Jan Oblak, according to reports.

United are on the lookout for a top class goalie with David De Gea edging closer to joining Real Madrid.

A host of names have been linked in recent weeks, but Atletico’s Oblak appears to be their choice, with AS reporting that talks are now underway over a transfer.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an incredible debut season in La Liga last term following his move from Benfica.

Atletico will only do business if United pay Oblak’s release clause which is set at £32.3million.

Official :Matteo Darmian is now a Man United player

Manchester United have officially announced the transfer of Matteo Darmian from Torino.

The Red Devils have sewn up a deal for the flying full-back who will now join them on their pre-season tour of the USA.

Earlier in the evening, Darmian’s former club confirmed that they had sold him.

And the Italian international has signed a four-year deal with a one year extension option.

‘It is a dream come true to be joining Manchester United. I have loved the time that I have spent at Torino and I would like to thank the club and the fans for everything they have done for me,’ Darmian said.

Louis van Gaal’s plans are starting to take shape (Picture: Getty Images)
‘I am sure they can understand when the opportunity to join the biggest club in the world came along it was something I had to do.

‘To work with Louis van Gaal, a manager that has achieved so much in football is an exciting prospect.’

Louis van Gaal added: ‘Matteo is a right-sided full-back with the versatility of also being able to play on the left.

‘He is a strong defender and has the ability to go forward in the attacking positions, which is a fantastic attribute to have and much needed in the fast rhythm of the Premier League.

‘Matteo Matteo will be a great addition to the team. I am delighted to welcome Matteo to the club and look forward to working with him in the coming days.

The news comes after Bastian Schweinsteiger signed earlier today.

Louis van Gaal had previously confirmed that he would have a medical at the club so the move comes as no great shock.

The Italian international is known for his ability to attack in the full-back role.

Torino announced that they had sold the player outright and thanked him for his time there.

Serena makes all kind of history after latest win

Serena Williams has completed the ‘Serena Slam’ by holding all four majors at once.

The American tennis star is the current champion of the US Open, Australian Open, French Open and now Wimbledon.

Garbine Muguruza was promptly swept aside in the Wimbledon final today 6-4 6-4 to clinch the final title.

Amazingly, this is the second time she has achieved such a feat – the first player to do so twice.

Back in 2003 she won the Australian Open to finish off winning all four titles in a row.

She’s a real winner (Picture: Getty Images)
The 33-year-old is arguably the greatest sportsperson of all time and has now won an incredible 21 Grand Slams including six Wimbledons.

Her historic ‘Serena Slam’ double puts her in a league of her own.

She is also the oldest ever Grand Slam winner in the Open Era.

What an achievement (Picture: Getty Images)
Despite holding all four majors at the same time twice, she has yet to win all four in the same year (known as completing the Grand Slam).

However, if she wins the US Open she will achieve the calender Grand Slam and enforce the view that she is the greatest player of all time.

How United could line up with Schweinsteiger

Reports in Germany claim that the 30-year-old is
closing in on a €20 million move to Old Trafford
but where would he slot in? Goal takes a look at
the options...
Friday evening sent the rumour mill into overdrive
as Bild reported that Bastian Schweinsteiger's
move to Manchester United is all but confirmed.
The report claimed that the World Cup-winning
midfielder will join from Bayern Munich in a €20
million (£14.3m) deal and has signed a three-year
contract worth €10m (£7.1m) per season with
Louis van Gaal's side .
So with reports in Germany claiming a deal is all
but done, where will the 30-year-old fit in to Van
Gaal's plans at United? Goal looks at the
possibilities...
SCHWEINSTEIGER ALONGSIDE MATA & HERRERA
Juan Mata and Ander Herrera struck up an
excellent understanding as last season progressed
but with the absence of Michael Carrick, United
lacked that vital link from defence to midfield.
Schweinsteiger has the experience and the
technical ability to plug that gap which allows Mata
and Herrera to create further forward but would
leaving Carrick, so influential for much of the last
campaign, out of the side really be an option?
SCHWEINSTEIGER PAIRED WITH HERRERA IN A
3-4-3
If Van Gaal decides to go with a 3-4-3 (or 3-5-2,
as he experimented with in the last campaign) next
season, Herrera and Schweinsteiger could be the
best central combination United possess.
When asked about signing a new deep-lying
midfielder in May, Van Gaal confessed that his
options are limited, aside from Carrick, and that he
prefers Herrera in a more advanced midfield role.
"No.6 is a key player, yes. I have more key roles –
the no.6 is just one of those key roles," said the
United manager. "You have seen this season, for
example, because Carrick is injured and I don't
have another, I have to play with Herrera there. He
did it very well, but it is not his speciality.
"I have played Wayne Rooney there also, but it is
not his favoured position. I had to do this because
I don't have another right-footed holding midfielder
like Carrick. That is why it is a key role, but I
cannot discuss other positions because then I
show too much."
SCHWEINSTEIGER & MATA AHEAD OF CARRICK
Given his importance to United last term, it's
unlikely that Carrick will find himself on the bench
when fit next season.
With the 33-year-old taking up his anchoring role,
it would allow Schweinsteiger and Mata to push
further forward in order to support Memphis Depay,
Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria - who could
switch back to a right-wing spot after impressing
in a similar role for Argentina at the Copa America
earlier this summer.
SCHWEINSTEIGER & CARRICK HOLDING
A trio of Depay, Di Maria and Ashley Young
presents a formidable counter-attacking unit that's
filled with pace. Carrick and Schweinsteiger would
be at the base which would allow the trio to
flourish and link with Rooney in attack.
The presence of Carrick would also allow
Schweinsteiger greater freedom to get involved in
attacks, while Di Maria would be afforded further
license to operate in more of a free role, which
could see him at his most dangerous.
SCHWEINSTEIGER & HERRERA IN A 4-4-2
Could Memphis Depay form a strike partnership
with Wayne Rooney? Van Gaal is short of options
and hasn't ruled out the possibility of using the
21-year-old as a forward.
If the United boss opts to go with that pairing up
front in a 4-4-2 system, Schweinsteiger and
Herrera being flanked by Young and Di Maria looks
to be a balanced midfield option.

Marcelo extends Real Madrid contract

The Brazil international, who joined from
Fluminense in 2007, has committed his future to
los Blancos for the next five seasons
Real Madrid have announced that defender Marcelo
has signed a new contract binding him to the
Santiago Bernabeu until 2020.
The Brazil international still had three years to run
on his previous deal with los Blancos but has now
decided to extend his stay in the Spanish capital
for an additional two seasons.
Marcelo joined Madrid from Fluminense in January
2007 and has long since established himself as the
club's first-choice left-back.
The 27-year-old has won three Liga titles during
his time at the Bernabeu, while he also played a
key role in the 2014 Champions League triumph,
scoring a goal in the final against Atletico Madrid.
Marcelo, who missed Brazil's Copa America
campaign with a back injury, becomes the second
Madrid defender to commit his future to the club
this week, with fellow full-back Dani Carvajal also
having signed on until 2020 on Wednesday.
Former Madrid defender David Mateos has told
Goal that Marcelo represents an ideal candidate to
become a team captain should Iker Casillas and
Sergio Ramos depart this summer.

Delph to take City medical over the weekend

The Aston Villa captain's move to the Etihad
Stadium has been delayed due to his wife being
due to give birth but the formalities of the deal are
soon to be completed
By Paul Clennam
Manchester City have booked a medical for
imminent £8 million (€11m) signing Fabian Delph
this weekend, Goal understands.
The England international midfielder is set to sign
a contract worth £100,000 (€139,000) per week at
the Etihad Stadium but the deal has taken extra
time to complete as his wife is due to give birth.
As a result, Delph's capture from Aston Villa has
not been concluded sufficiently quickly to include
him in the City squad touring Australia.
The 25-year-old is aware that he will be a squad
player under Manuel Pellegrini but has been told
that he will get a similar number of opportunities
to that enjoyed by James Milner over his spell at
the club. Milner signed for Liverpool on a free
transfer earlier this summer.
Delph is part of City's drive to recruit more home-
grown players, with Milner and loanee Frank
Lampard the only Englishmen to start more than
10 games across all competitions for them last
season.
Villa, meanwhile, have already moved to replace
their captain, confirming on Friday the capture
from Lille of defensive midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

Argentina turn its back on Messi - Biglia

The Lazio midfielder says the Barcelona forward
has the full support of team-mates after he came
under heavy criticism in the Copa America
aftermath
Lucas Biglia says Argentina's stars would support
Lionel Messi if he decided to take a break from
playing for the national team after his country
"turned its back" on him.
The Argentina captain has been criticised once
again in the wake of his side's Copa America final
defeat to Chile, despite some bright performances
throughout the tournament.
Messi has never received the same adoration from
Argentina fans as he gets from Barcelona
supporters, and Biglia has thanked the four-time
Ballon d'Or winner for playing for the Albiceleste
despite what he perceives as a lack of respect.
"We have to thank Leo for choosing to play for a
country that turned its back on him," Biglia
told Estudio Futbol.
"If he needs a break from the national team, Messi
knows that the players will support him."
Messi has won four Champions League titles and
seven league titles at Barcelona, but is yet to lead
the Argentina first-team to glory since winning a
gold medal at the 2008 Olympics.

Meet the new Liverpool captain

The midfielder told Goal in June that he was ready
to replace Steven Gerrard permanently after leading
the team 19 times, with Brendan Rodgers hailing
the player's growth
Liverpool have confirmed Jordan Henderson as the
club's new captain, taking over from Steven
Gerrard, who left at the end of last season.
Henderson, who signed a contract extension in
April, had been hotly tipped to be named as
permanent skipper after deputising for the new LA
Galaxy man in recent months, telling Goal he was
ready in June .
"I've always wanted to take more responsibility,
especially at the stage of my career I'm at," he
said.
"I feel I'm getting a bit older now, a bit more
mature and of course I want to take more
responsibility for the team but at the same time, I
think it's up to all of us as a team to take more
responsibility on the pitch and make sure we put in
good performances.
"When I've been vice-captain I've just tried to do
my best for the team as I always have and to learn
as much as I can from Stevie, like I have from
when I first came to the club. But we've got a lot
of captains and a lot of leaders in the dressing
room so I'm sure whoever he [Rodgers] picks, the
lads will be right behind him.
"I've think I've learned a lot from Steven. I have
from when I first came to the club, he's been a
huge role model and leader to all of us. All of us
have learned a lot from him; just being with him
every day, training with him every day, you learn a
lot from him."

Manchester United reaches agreement with Bayern Munich for Schweinsteiger

Manchester United are on the verge of completing
the signing of Bastian Schweinsteiger from Bayern
Munich, Bild report this evening.
The German tabloid claims that a deal is almost
done and that the German World Cup winner will
sign a 3-year contract at Old Trafford, with United
paying a €20m transfer fee.
Schweinsteiger will miss a pre-season team
presentation tomorrow in Munich due to ongoing
negotiations with United.

Roma in no rush to sign Dzeko

The Serie A side have confirmed their interest in
the Manchester City striker but the French coach
insists they have plenty of time to bring players in
Rudi Garcia insists Roma are in no hurry to
complete the signing of Edin Dzeko from
Manchester City when asked about links with the
striker on Friday.
The Italian club's sporting director, Walter Sabatini,
confirmed last week that the club are attempting to
buy the Bosnia-Herzegovina international .
The striker told Goal in June that he will not look
to force a move away from the Etihad Stadium
despite Roma's interest and Garcia was tight-
lipped when quizzed on the prospective deal by
reporters.
"I will not talk about the market now," he said.
"What is certain is that we have always worked in
harmony with James Pallotta and Sabatini.
"Obviously, new players will come but we do not
have to rush. We try to sign three players for roles
that are clearly defined but we must take the right
players."
Dzeko completed 90 minutes just twice in the
Premier League in 2014-15 but made 22
appearances in total, scoring four goals.

Messi better than Ronaldo - Turan

The latest arrival at Camp Nou believes that the
Argentine is the greatest player the game has ever
seen, while he revealed that he received several
offers from other clubs
New Barcelona signing Arda Turan says that, while
Cristiano Ronaldo is a "special" player, the Real
Madrid superstar will never reach the same level
as Lionel Messi.
Turkey international Arda completed his €41
million move from Atletico Madrid to the Blaugrana
on Friday , putting pen to paper on a five-year
contract with the Catalan club.
The attacking midfielder will not be able to play for
Luis Enrique's side until January as Barca are
currently serving a Fifa-imposed transfer ban
relating to the movement of under-age players but
Arda explained that he never had any doubts about
moving to Camp Nou as he is so excited about
lining up alongside the man he believes to be the
greatest footballer of all time.
"Cristiano is special but he'll never be like Messi,"
the 28-year-old told reporters at a press
conference on Friday.
"I don't think that there's ever been anyone like
Messi - or ever will be."
However, Arda admitted that he is arguably even
more excited about playing in the same team as
Andres Iniesta and insisted that there is room for
him in Barca's all-star attacking line-up.
“Hopefully I will play play alongside Iniesta, Messi,
Neymar and Luis Suarez," he stated. "I think you
can see that picture of the five of us playing
together.
"At Atletico, I always said that Messi is the best
player in the world, but Iniesta is my idol."
Arda, who was also linked with Liverpool, Chelsea,
AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, also revealed
that he could have moved elsewhere but that he
always had his heart set on a switch to Catalunya.
"I received lots of offers, but when I heard from
Barca I pushed all the others aside," he added.
"Those who know me know that I've dreamt of
playing for Barca since I was a kid.
"I'm happy to come to the best club in the world.
I'll try to give the best I've have.
"I've always liked having to really fight in order to
win; I think here people will see the best Arda."

Casillas and Ramos deserve better

The former Real Madrid defender says people
should not forget what the duo have given the club
as summer transfers draw closer
EXCLUSIVE By Alberto Pinero
Former Real Madrid defender David Mateos feels
Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos have both been
treated unfairly amid speculation over their futures.
Casillas has agreed a deal in principle to join Porto
from his boyhood club, although the move has hit
a stumbling block after he failed to negotiate a
financial compensation package with the Santiago
Bernabeu side .
Meanwhile, Madrid have stayed silent on rumours
surrounding the future of Ramos, with Manchester
United keen on bringing the Spain centre-back to
Old Trafford should his relationship with the club
become untenable.
While Mateos is not surprised to see Casillas
considering a departure - given the plummet in his
standing among Madridistas following his falling-
out with Jose Mourinho and poor form - he
believes fans should remember what both players
have given to the club during their careers.
"Well, not surprised, really! It's been talked about
for two years, since Mourinho left the club," he
told Goal of Casillas' potential move.
"The Casillas situation surely has not been what he
wanted - it's the same for the club. It was
expected this year could be his last. I don't know
how the atmosphere is inside the club, or with the
president, but from the outside it's being perceived
that it is still quite unfair to Casillas, because they
are forgetting everything he gave them.
"It's an unfair treatment. He gave everything for
Real Madrid and Spain. I do not think he is going
to leave the club badly, but as a player of his
standing should do.
"From my point of view, they should be treated
better. Ramos is the focus of all the news right
now, as is Casillas. For me, as a Real Madrid fan,
the Ramos exit means a lot. One of the things I
like about Real Madrid was Sergio Ramos, because
I admire him, both when I was training close to
him and now from outside. As a Madrid fan, if I
don't see a Real Madrid with Ramos, I'll miss
something. In the football world people forget
everything very quickly.
"Porto are a big club in Europe. Maybe the league
is lower than the Spanish, English or German ones,
where Casillas also could have gone. There's a
Spanish coach and players, the city is close to
Madrid, but it's hard to know what he thinks... It is
a great club, though.
"Alberto Bueno has gone there this year and says
it's amazing, it's like the Real Madrid of Portugal. I
don't know if Casillas' decision is good or bad, but
if he takes that decision, he'll have his reasons.
"He could also play in bigger places: Paris,
Manchester, London, Munich... but be careful with
Porto, they reached the quarter-finals of the
Champions League. I understand that money is not
the most important aspect for him now, and he's
prioritising being close to Spain, playing regularly
and having a coach who supports him."
Mateos, now at Ferencvaros in Hungary, says
Madrid as a club have always looked after its star
players, but concedes that supporters have the
right to be critical.
"The players cannot have any complaints of the
club treatment. World-class players come to
Madrid and are given what they want.
"I was speaking of external criticism from the
public. They may be right or not, and have their
rights as they pay, but as a player, it's strange to
hear whistles against Casillas. That treatment from
the people is unfair, I think.
"People forget very quickly what Casillas has
given, and what he may still give for some years,
with the Spanish national team, for instance."
Mateos also denied suggestions that Casillas' rift
with Mourinho emerged from a deep-rooted
antipathy between the pair and even suggested that
Porto head coach Julen Lopetegui treats his
players in a similar way.
"That first year, I was in the squad, and I did not
perceive what would happen later," said the 28-
year-old of Mourinho's spell in charge.
"When I was there, the relationship was normal.

Don't compare me to Ronaldo

The Netherlands international was officially
unveiled as the club's newest signing on Friday,
and has rebuffed comparisons with the Real Madrid
and Portugal superstar
By Kris Voakes at Old Trafford

New Manchester United signing Memphis Depay
has rejected comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo , but
is planning to excite fans of the club.
United boss Louis van Gaal previously compared
Depay to Lionel Messi due to his ability to score
goals from the wing .
"He's a goalscoring winger and there aren't so
many of them in the world," Van Gaal told MUTV in
May. "[Lionel] Messi is one of those."
But Depay has acknowledged he still has plenty of
work to do before he is considered among
football's elite.
"I don't want to say I can be like somebody as
that, but I think I can excite the fans," he said at
his official unveiling.

However, Van Gaal believes Depay has the
confidence to shine at Old Trafford.
"I think he's one of the few highly-talented boys of
his age," Van Gaal said. "He's full of confidence, as
you can hear, but he also knows there's a
difference between the Premier League and the
Dutch league.
"He's full of confidence, he'll say what he's
thinking."
Depay was officially unveiled as a United player on
Friday, having completed his £25 million move
from PSV Eindhoven, and is set to join the club on
their pre-season tour of the United States.
The Netherlands international scored 28 goals in
40 appearances in all competitions last season.

Manchester United unveil Depay

Key quotes from Louis van Gaal and Memphis
Depay's press conference.
Memphis Depay:
"I think this team has the quality to win a title, and
all the trophies it's possible for us to win. I don’t
want to talk too much, I want to show it on the
pitch. I don’t want to compare myself with
Ronaldo. I'm excited about scoring goals and
giving assists. I'm a striker."
Van Gaal on Memphis:
"I think he is one of the few high-talented boys of
his age. He’s full of confidence. He can play in
different positions and that is also a reason why we
have bought him. We have to see which position
he can give the most benefit to the team."
Van Gaal on Darmian:
"Matteo Darmian, I've read that in the papers. That
is true. He is on the way for a medical yes."
Van Gaal on De Gea:
“He’s a professional player and has shown great
attitude until now. For every manager this period is
difficult”
Van Gaal on RVP:
"When we feel that he can go, you shall hear from
Manchester United. We don't have the feeling yet."
Louis van Gaal on transfers:
"Buying and selling is a process, we are middle of
process.We cannot say anything otherwise
opponents can profit. It’s a logical question but I
cannot answer that. I said at the end of the season
that buying and selling players is a process. The
process lasts until 1 Sept. When we buy players,
they have to be better than what we have. United
shall not buy to buy. I’m not a manager or trainer/
coach who wants to buy players, no, I want to
develop players. We cannot say anything about our
strategy as our opponents can take advantage.
You can write anything you want."

Sterling resumes training with Liverpool

The 20-year-old, who is desperate to leave the
club this summer, cited illness for his absence on
Wednesday and Thursday but reported for duty
ahead of the pre-season tour
Raheem Sterling has reported for Liverpool pre-
season training after calling in sick twice earlier
this week, Goal understands.
The winger was absent as the first-team squad
returned to Melwood on Wednesday, citing illness,
before repeating the claim on Thursday amid
ongoing speculation over his future.
Sterling told Brendan Rodgers of his desire to
leave Liverpool at the end of last season, with
Manchester City since having two bid rejected and
are preparing a third.
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard told
Sterling to "be a man about it" after the 20-year-
old refused to take part in the club's upcoming
pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.
Sterling's agent, Aidy Ward, has all trust between
his client and Rodgers has evaporated over the
long-running transfer saga with the England
international widely expected to depart the club
this summer.
Liverpool are set to fly out for their pre-season
tour on Sunday, ahead of a game against the Thai
All-Stars in Bangkok on Tuesday, but it remains to
be seen is Sterling is part of the travelling party.

Gyan signs bumper deal with Chinese side

The Ghana striker has signed a two-year contract
with the Chinese Super League side worth a
reported €315,000 per week
Asamoah Gyan has reportedly become one of the
world's best-paid players after joining Shanghai
SIPG from Al Ain for an undisclosed fee.
The Ghana captain had been playing his trade in
United Arab Emirates since 2011, having initially
arrived on a loan deal from Sunderland, and still
had three years left on his contract with his Abu
Dhabi-based employers.
However, Gyan will be formally presented as a
Shanghai SIPG player next week after penning a
lucrative two-year contract with the Chinese Super
League side.
"I thank God for this special day, to my family,
former team-mates at Al Ain and to my fans," the
striker wrote on his official website.
"I reserve the rest of my comments for the official
unveiling next week."
Shanghai SIPG, who are coached by Sven Goran
Eriksson, have reportedly agreed to pay Gyan
€315,000 per week, which would make him one of
the top 10 highest-paid players in the world.
The 29-year-old attacker, who has netted 48 times
in 90 appearances for his country, counts Rennes
and Udinese among his former clubs.

Louis van Gaal confident of Thomas Muller deal

Manchester United are confident of signing
Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich,
according to reports.
United have been chasing Muller for the last
three transfer windows – with Louis van
Gaal a huge admirer.
And while Bayern are desperate to keep him,
United want to get Muller signed as a
replacement for Robin van Persie after his
sale to Fenerbache.
Ed Woodward is working on the transfer and
the Daily Star says the Red Devils are
confident of doing business in the coming
days.
Muller would likely cost in excess of
£60million but United are thought to have
offered £57.6million.

OFFICIAL : Cabaye joins Crystal Palace

The France international midfielder reunites with
former Newcastle manager Alan Pardew as the
Eagles pay just over £10 million to bring him back
to the Premier League
Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of
France international midfielder Yohan Cabaye from
Paris Saint-Germain on a three-year deal.
Goal understands that the Eagles have paid a fee in
excess of £10 million to reunite boss Alan Pardew
which the man whom he managed for a spell at
Newcastle.
The midfielder spent three years under Pardew at
St James's Park, during which time he became
one of the highest-rated midfielders in the Premier
League.
His form persuaded PSG to part with nearly £20m
to sign him in early 2014 but, 18 months on, they
have taken a sizeable hit on their investment.

Be a Man, Gerrard to Sterling

The winger, who wants to join Manchester City,
missed the first two days of pre-season training,
citing illness, and told the club he does not want
to go on their tour
Steven Gerrard has told Raheem Sterling "to be a
man" about wanting to leave Liverpool after the
player missed the first two days of pre-season
preparations.
The winger, who does not want to take part in the
pre-season tour of Australia and Asia , is a target
for Manchester City after telling Brendan Rodgers
of his desire to leave Anfield this summer.
Liverpool began their preparations for the new
campaign on Wednesday without Sterling, who
informed the club he was unable to attend due to
illness and repeated that claim on Thursday .
"I'm not happy with all that carry-on and I don't
think there's any need for it. They all need to be
men about the situation," Gerrard told Sky Sports.
"Raheem needs to go in and speak to the owners
and to Brendan [Rodgers] himself, tell them what
he wants and go about it that way. You don't hav
to throw illnesses in and refuse to go on tour.
"There are millions and millions of Liverpool fans
around the world who are itching to see Raheem
Sterling in a Liverpool kit. So I don't think it's fair
on them if he is behaving like that."
The 20-year-old's agent, Aidy Ward, has claimed
all trust between his client and Rodgers has
evaporated over the long-running transfer saga,
while Liverpool are set to fly out to Bangkok on
Sunday.
Meanwhile, Gerrard is in line to make his LA
Galaxy debut against Club America on Saturday.

I want to play for Bayern Munich - Ibrahimovic

The PSG and Sweden star admits the Bundesliga
has always held an appeal for him - especially the
current champions
Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic
has revealed he would relish the chance to play for
Bayern Munich before he retires.
The outspoken Swede has been touted for a return
to AC Milan this summer, with president Silvio
Berlusconi admitting only last weekend that he still
wants to sign the striker despite the arrivals of Luiz
Adriano and Carlos Bacca.
Ibrahimovic, however, has claimed he has one eye
on playing in the Bundesliga before he retires and
telegraphed his interest in the German champions
specifically.
"It's certainly a league that fascinates me. Maybe
one day I could play there, I still have time," the
33-year-old told 11Freunde .
"If I went to Germany, I'd have to play for Bayern.
They're one of the five best teams in the world."
Any prospective deal to take Ibrahimovic to the
Allianz Arena would be complicated by Pep
Guardiola's position as head coach, however, given
the turbulent relationship between the duo during
their time at Barcelona .
The former Inter forward's current contract at Parc

LVG gives up on De Gea, wants Van Persie sold before Monday

Louis van Gaal wants to leave David De Gea and
Robin van Persie behind when Manchester United
leave for their pre-season tour of the USA.
Van Gaal is keen for deals to sell both players to
be concluded before he and his squad jet off on
the two-and-a-half week trip on Monday.
Van Gaal is taking three keepers on tour, he is
considering taking Victor Valdes, Anders
Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone but sees little
value in taking a fourth if De Gea wants to leave.
De Gea may travel to the States, but Van Gaal
would prefer any deal with Real to be concluded
before the team fly off at lunchtime on Monday.
Fenerbahce are close to signing RVP and he may
fly to Istanbul on Sunday to sign for the Turkish
club.

Casillas and Madrid hits stumbling block

The player met with club officials to agree compensation ahead of his expected
transfer to the Portuguese club, but negotiations have hit a brick wall
Iker Casillas' exit to Porto has hit a snag after the goalkeeper and Real Madrid were
unable to agree terms on a financial compensation package.
The Spain veteran has accepted a proposed contract from Porto worth €2.5 to 3
million a year after deciding to bring his long spell with the 2014 European
champions to an end.
However, Goal understands the transfer cannot be rubber-stamped just yet as
Casillas has failed to find an agreement with his current employers over
compensation for the remaining two years on his current contract.
With no club willing to offer the 34-year-old the same €7m-per-season salary that
he receives in the Spanish capital, Casillas has been forced into negotiations with los
Blancos in order to make up the shortfall in his salary.
Madrid, however, have so far been unwilling to accept demands to pay the
outstanding amount owed on his contract following discussions late on Thursday.
While the move to Porto is far from being called off, the impasse does throw Casillas
and Madrid's plans into confusion, with the squad already having been summoned
by new coach Rafa Benitez for the start of pre-season earlier on Thursday.
The goalkeeper had been keen to tie up his future prior to pre-season commitments,
with last season's Liga runners-up officially beginning their preparations for the new
campaign on Friday.
His agent, Santos Marquez, had earlier confirmed Casillas was happy with the
package on offer from Porto .

Schweinsteiger flattered by Premier League move

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been linked wit
a move to Manchester United in recent weeks and
will discuss his future with the club soon
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
admits Bastian Schweinsteiger is “flattered” by
interest from the Premier League, amid links with
Manchester United.
The Bavarian giants’ sporting director, Matthias
Sammer, admitted last week that Schweinsteiger
could leave the club this summer, while manager
Pep Guardiola insists only the midfielder can
decide his future .
United are believed to have identified the Germany
international as a potential acquisition as they
embark on a major squad overhaul this summer,
with the club having missed out on Borussia
Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
Rummenigge says Schweinsteiger is aware of
interest from England and claims that he will meet
the World Cup winner to discuss his future later
this summer.
"I make no secret about it that, in our
conversations, it sounds like he is flattered from
the interest in England,” he told reporters.
"I talked to him during his vacation. We will meet
each other, when he is back.
"Our plans are not finished yet. The window is
open until August 31.”
Schweinsteiger made 28 appearances in all
competitions last season, scoring five goals.

Bale gunning for Champion's league Glory

The Real Madrid attacker says he is already
looking forward to next season as the capital club
aim for their 11th European crown
Real Madrid star Gareth Bale says he "cannot wait"
for the new season and is determined to challenge
for the Champions League again.
The world's most expensive player lifted the trophy
in his first campaign with the Liga giants after
scoring in the 4-1 final victory over neighbours
Atletico Madrid.
Madrid endured a tough campaign in 2014-15,
however, finishing empty-handed while watching
Barcelona romp to the treble, and Bale himself
came in for some stinging criticism for his 2015
form.
But the Wales forward is determined to challenge
for continental supremacy next season under new
head coach Rafa Benitez, saying via his official
Twitter account: "Had a great summer but can not
wait to get back in to the season and challenge for
Undecima."
Had a great summer but can not wait to get back
in to the season and challenge for undecima
#HalaMadrid

Bale notched 17 goals and 12 assists last season
as Madrid finished second to Barcelona in La Liga
and were knocked out of the Champions League
semi-finals by Juventus.

Messi is more influential than Cristiano Ronaldo

The Barcelona right-back insists his team-mate is
better than the Real Madrid star because he is
more heavily involved in his team's moves beyond
goals and assists
Barcelona right-back Dani Alves says Lionel Messi
is a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo because
he has more influence in matches.
The debate continues to rage on over which of the
two players is the best in the world and it shows
no signs of abating, with the pair seemingly getting
better each year.
However, Alves insists Messi has more influence in
his team's plays than Ronaldo does with Real
Madrid, insisting the Portuguese star does not do
anything outside of scoring goals.
"Messi is much better than Cristiano Ronaldo," he
told Bola da Vez. "Messi has an influence on the
play and Cristiano doesn’t. See if he has an
influence on play beyond scoring goals and
appearing in certain moves.
"Messi is influential, he plays and assists. Messi
has a divine gift. Cristiano works hard. We have
our battles, but I admire him. He is a guy with
great dedication and he’s competitive.
"Ronaldo has things that I don't admire because I
play for the team. I think that my team is more
important than me. I think he cares little for what
really matters, which is the collective side of the
game.
"So much so that some criticised us during the
celebration of titles while he celebrated the league
top goalscorer award.”
Messi and coach Luis Enrique had a public falling
out after the Argentine was left out of his side's
defeat to Real Sociedad at the start of 2015, but
Alves insists these things happen in football.
"Fights sometimes occur due to wanting to
improve. Of course the anger existed, but it was
about competing. Everything started during a
match in a training session due to the
interpretation of an action.
"It was a move that the coach interpreted in one
way and Messi in another. Messi is very
competitive and never wants to lose and his team
lost and the discussion grew.
"Each one has a way of being, but we all have the
same objective. Besides, fights even occur in the
best families."
The Brazil international recently signed a new
contract with the Catalan club, despite being
heavily linked with a move away for the majority of
the season. And he admits that he turned down
offers to remain at Camp Nou.
"I could have signed a pre-contract with another
team, but I refused," he added. "I decided to be
honest to the end and focus 100 per cent on doing
a great job."

Casillas more than happy to join Porto

Santos Marquez claims the goalkeeper would be
happy to sign for the Portuguese side should the
Blancos sanction his exit as expected
Iker Casillas has reached a provisional agreement
with Porto and is happy with the terms on offer,
according to his agent.
The experienced Spain international has been
tempted by the prospect of moving to Estadio do
Dragao having accepted his time with Real Madrid
is drawing to a close, with the pursuit of David de
Gea and criticism of his own form hastening his
departure.
The 34-year-old has been offered a deal
understood to be worth €2.5 million a year, with
an initial two-year deal set to include an option for
a third season, and his representative says he is
happy with the terms.
"There's an agreement between Porto and
Casillas," Santos Marquez told La Sexta.
"He's happy with the agreement that's been
reached."
Casillas, Spain's most capped player, has been
part of the Madrid set-up since joining the
academy in 1990.
He has since made more than 700 appearances for
the club and lifted 18 major titles, including
winning the Champions League three times.

Hernandez one of Sevilla Target

The Rojiblancos are looking for a new striker
following Carlos Bacca's €30 million move to AC
Milan
Sevilla coach Unai Emery has confirmed that Javie
Hernandez , Ciro Immobile and Fernando Llorente
are possible replacements for Carlos Bacca.
Colombia international Bacca was the Rojiblancos'
top scorer last season, netting 28 times in all
competitions, but the striker departed for AC Milan
on July 2, after the Serie A side met his €30
million buy-out clause.
Emery is thus looking for someone to fill the void
in the Sevilla attack and has three names on his
transfer target list.
“We now have to find another Bacca," the 43-year
old trainer told the Corriere dello Sport. "It’s not
easy, but there are opportunities.
"There is Chicharito, Immobile and other players
that we are evaluating, like Llorente, though it will
not be easy to get to him.
"But what’s important is the desire, not the age."
Hernandez spent last season at Real Madrid but
has since returned to parent club Manchester
United after the Blancos decided against making
his loan deal permanent.
Immobile was the Capocannoniere in Serie A in
2013-14, which earned him a move from Torino t
Borussia Dortmund, but the Italy attacker's future
at Signal Iduna Park is in doubt after a dreadful
debut season in Germany.
Llorente, meanwhile, is also likely to be on the
move this summer, having fallen further down the
pecking order at Juventus following the signings o
Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

Manchester United to unvei new signing tomorrow

Manchester United have announced a press
conference for tomorrow to unveil a new signing.
It's expected that Torino fullback Matteo Darmian
will complete his move to United today. However,
United say Memphis Depay will be presented to
new media.
The club confirmed this morning: "United will hold
a press conference on Friday afternoon to unveil
new signing Memphis Depay.
"Louis van Gaal and his fellow Dutchman, who was
recruited from PSV Eindhoven last month, will
address the media for the first time since the
squad returned to pre-season training."

Am I to be blame for climate change to ? - Blatter

The Swiss believes that jealousy is behind the
attacks on his time at the helm of the game's
governing body
Fifa president Sepp Blatter says that he is being
made a scapegoat for others' failings, sarcastically
suggesting that some people would even go so fa
as to blame him for global warming.
The Swiss announced last month that he will
imminently resign from his post as he no longer
feels he has the full support of everyone within th
game after football's governing body was rocked
by a corruption scandal that resulted in the arrest
of 14 people just two days before his re-election.
Indeed, Blatter feels that he has been unfairly
maligned, given he has not been charged with any
crime, and reiterated that he cannot be held
accountable for the actions of every Fifa employee
"I not only see everything, I'm responsible for
everything, even for the English women's own goa
at the World Cup recently," the 79-year-old is
quoted as saying by Reuters .
"Am I responsible for climate change too?
"It is impossible to stamp out robbery and murder
even with a functioning courts system down to
community level. Soccer is not better than our
society.
"But this envy has been festering for years. Envy i
a predicate to jealousy. And jealousy is rooted in
love.
"This can, however, turn to hate. And that's what
happened when this tsunami hit us two days
before the congress."
The 14 arrests were the result of a FBI-led
investigation into alleged corruption dating back t
1991, while Swiss authorities have opened a
separate inquiry into the Fifa vote that resulted in
Russia and Qatar being awarded the next two
World Cups.

Matteo Darmian deal to United far from done

The Italy international is expected to complete his
switch to Old Trafford this week but his current
employers say the transfer is still not finalised
Torino president Urbana Cairo has denied that
Matteo Darmian 's proposed move to Manchester
United is a done deal.
The Italy international is expected to complete a
€20 million transfer to Old Trafford later this week,
with Granata boss Giampiero Ventura admitting on
Wednesday that he is resigned to losing the right-
back.
However, Cairo has dismissed reports that the two
clubs have ironed out all of the details for
Darmian's departure, suggesting that Torino inten
to get the best possible deal for the 25-year-old
before sanctioning the move.
"I'm very fond of Darmian," the Granata supremo
told La7 . "Matteo is a very important player for us
He's essential and well liked.
"Manchester United are a great club but there's
still nothing done regarding his sale.
"Until there is something definite, I'd prefer not to
speak about it officially."
Goal understands that United have agreed to pay
an initial €18 million for Darmian but that the fee
could rise by a further €2m depending on add-on
The defender is a product of AC Milan's youth
academy but was allowed to join Palermo in 2010
before moving to Torino the following year.

Casillas reported move to Madrid is Insulting

The Catalans insist that there is absolutely no trut
in reports that the shot-stopper is on the verge of
a move to the Santiago Bernabeu
Espanyol president Joan Collet has rubbished
speculation that goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is to join
Real Madrid , describing the rumoured fee of €5
million as "insulting".
It has been claimed in the Spanish press that the
Blancos youth academy product is set to return to
the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, with Los
Blancos set to sell club captain Iker Casillas to
Porto .
However, Collet has reacted angrily to reports that
Casilla's switch to the Spanish capital is effectivel
a done deal.
"Everything is a lie, there's nothing," he told AS.
"I'm not sure if I should say I'm gobsmacked but
am surprised.
"I have spoken a lot in the last few days with [Rea
Madrid general director] Jose Angel Sanchez and
yes, he asked a question [regarding Casilla] but w
did not sit down no negotiate.
"I don't know what will happen tomorrow but right
now, there is nothing and there will be nothing for
those figures that are being reported.
"First we have to receive an offer, find out if the
player wants to leave and finally we must speak to
the coaching staff.
"But to speak of those figures for him is insulting,
don't know where they have come from."
Madrid are also pursuing Manchester United No.1
David De Gea and Collet is perturbed by the
thought that the Blancos could be using Casilla in
order to pressurise the Red Devils into lowering
their asking price.
"I feel bad because, [if true], they are playing with
a lot of feelings and with the player," the Espanyol
supremo added. "It annoys me that they are using
his name."
Casilla, who left Madrid for Espanyol in 2007, still
has three years to run on his current contract wit
the Catalan side.

Danilo happy to be at Madrid

The Brazilian thanked everyone who made his
switch to the Santiago Bernabeu possible at his
official unveiling, which didn't go quite according t
plan
New Real Madrid signing Danilo was unveiled to
the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday, but
remarkably failed to complete a basic kick-up on
the pitch.
The Brazil international's move to the club was
revealed halfway through last season, after three
impressive years at Porto, and was paraded in
front of his new supporters following confirmation
of his transfer.
The full-back was subsequently given a ball and
told to show off his skills, only to roundly fail to
prove why Real identified him as a key acquisition
After his embarrassing moment, Danilo then gave
press conference, completely without irony.
"I would like to thank God for making me good at
football," Danilo said.
On a more serious note, the 23-year-old
expressed his pride at moving to the club.
"Thanks to everyone who did everything to make
this day happen," he added. "Thanks to the fans
for their messages and their love.
"This is a childhood dream. It's certainly one of
the best days of my life.
"I'm going to leave everything on the pitch
because I only play to win. Thank you, everyone!"
Madrid paid €31.5 million for Danilo, who has
penned a six-year contract with the Liga side.

Messi was lazy

Antonio Cuccitini believes his grandson could hav
done much more to help his side's cause, saying
that he shirked his responsibilities in the final thre
games
Lionel Messi's grandfather Antonio Cuccitini says
his grandson was lazy in the closing stages of the
Copa America.
The Argentina skipper scored just once in the
tournament as Tata Martino's side fell to Chile on
penalties in the final on Saturday.
And his grandfather believes he could have done
much more to help his side get their hands on
their first piece of silverware in over 20 years.
"Some of him was there," Cuccitini told Radio
Casilda .
"Triumphs are the greatest things there are. But
the last three games he was bad. He was lazy."
Messi has represented his country in three World
Cups, with last year's runners-up finish being his
best achievement, but he did win a gold medal in
the 2008 Olympics.

Sterling misses Liverpool training again

The winger, who has informed the club of his
desire to leave and not take part in next week's
pre-season tour, has failed to report for duty for
the second consecutive day
Raheem Sterling was absent from Liverpool
training for a second day after calling in sick again,
Goal understands.
The winger, who does not want to take part in the
pre-season tour of Australia and Asia , is a target
for Manchester City after informing Brendan
Rodgers of his desire to leave Anfield this summer.
With the Liverpool squad due back for preparations
ahead of the new campaign on Wednesday, Sterling
informed the club he was unable to attend due to
illness and repeated that claim on Thursday
morning.
Sterling has already turned down a new £100,000-
a-week contract, with the 20-year-old agent, Aidy
Ward, claiming all trust between his client and
Rodgers has evaporated over the long-running
transfer saga .
Liverpool are set to fly out on Sunday, ahead of a
game against the Thai All-Stars in Bangkok next
Tuesday.

Sanchez and Welbeck to miss Arsenal preseason

The Chile star has been given time off to recover
from the Copa America, while his fellow forward
remains injured
Alexis Sanchez , Danny Welbeck and Tomas
Rosicky are among the players left out of Arsenal 's
27-man squad for the Asia Trophy.
Alexis and Colombia keeper David Ospina are both
missing following the Copa America, which was
won by Chile, while injured Welbeck and Rosicky
will sit out the friendly tournament, which is held
from July 15-18.
"Calum [Chambers] has decided to shorten his
holiday and come back on Friday, he didn’t play in
the under-21s and needs preparations," Wenger
told the club's official website.
"Welbeck isn't completely recovered from the
problem he had [at the end of last season]. He's
not back in full training so he will stay behind.
"Rosicky will stay back because he got a small
injury at his last game against Iceland with Czech
Republic.

Neymar wants more

The 23-year-old insists he is as hungry as ever to
win trophies and has hailed the work-rate of his
Barcelona team-mates
Barcelona star Neymar says his next target is to
win the "sextuple" after the club's treble success
last season.
The Catalans won La Liga, the Champions League
and Copa del Rey as Neymar ended the campaign
with 39 goals in all competitions.
However, the Brazil captain is refusing to rest on
his laurels and is keen to add to his medal haul,
starting with the European Super Cup, Spanish
Supercup and Club World Cup.
"I never lose the hunger," he told Sport .
"Last season was wonderful, incredible, but I
always want more. I am never satisfied. I have the
same hunger to keep winning more Ligas, more
Champions Leagues and more Copas del Rey.
"The treble is a nice word, but I've learned another
word I like: sextuple. And this has to be our goal,
we must prepare to conquer it immediately.
"If you win the treble it's because we work hard
and train well. Results do not come by chance or
luck, you have to train very hard."
Despite his best-ever goal haul last year, the 23-
year-old is under no illusions as to who is the
best player at the club, though, adding: "Everyone
who's with him throughout the year knows that
Lionel Messi is the best, the No.1."
Neymar, who received a four-game ban while
representing Brazil in the Copa America for his
angry outburst against Colombia, is also keen to
take the positives from another failed international
campaign.
"Whenever I take responsibility, I never hide. But
in football you cannot always win. But I think that
we formed a good basis for the World Cup
qualifying in the Copa America."

has what it takes to improve him after his transfer
from Burnley and is keen to work with team-mate
Daniel Sturridge
Danny Ings has cited Brendan Rodgers's ability to
develop young talent as a key factor in his
decision to join Liverpool.
Having been in demand with his Burnley contract
set to expire, Ings agreed a move to Anfield in
June - although compensation for the deal has sti
to be agreed.
In his first interview since he officially became a
Liverpool player on July 1, the 22-year-old forwar
hailed his new manager.
"He is fantastic at developing young players. For a
player like me, I think it will be perfect to work
with him," Ings told the club's official website.
"There's nothing better for a young player like me
than to be working for a manager like that, who
loves to bring all these young boys in and give
them a chance.
"With the development that he has for young
players, it suits me down to the ground and
hopefully we can have a great relationship for the
future.
"As soon as I knew that Liverpool were interested,
it was a no-brainer. It was the only club on my
mind, to be fair."
In addition to taking on board Rodgers's advice,
Ings is looking to learn from team-mates such as
England striker Daniel Sturridge.
"Of course, he's an unbelievable striker," the
youngster enthused. "He is one of those players
who has come through the ranks, he has not had
easy. Now he's here and he's established; he's a
fantastic, talented football player I can learn from.
"You need young, hungry, developing players in
your team but you also need that experience to
level things out and get hold of some of the
youngsters when they need advice in certain areas
of the pitch.
"I think there's a great mixture here and that was
also one of the big reasons why I wanted to come
here - to learn from other players, learn different
styles of football and different opinions to make
myself better."

No trust between Sterling and Rogers

Aidy Ward hints at conflict between the 20-year-
old and Brendan Rodgers, while West Brom ace
Saido Berahino has decided to part company with
the controversial agent
All trust between Raheem Sterling and Brendan
Rodgers has evaporated as he seeks to leave
Liverpool this summer, his agent Aidy Ward says.
The 20-year-old has already been the subject of
two failed bids from Manchester City and Goal
understands that they are now preparing a third
offer, worth over €60 million plus add-ons.
The Merseysiders still hope to keep Sterling but
may be forced to sell after the England
international told Liverpool bosses that he does
not want to join the squad for their upcoming pre-
season tour of Australia and south-east Asia .
Not long after his threat to strike, Sterling was then
absent from training on Wednesday after calling in
sick and Ward's latest remarks suggest that he is
unwilling to work under Rodgers any longer.
"With Raheem, there has been a breakdown in trust
between him and Brendan Rodgers," said Ward, as
quoted by the Daily Mail .
The 34-year-old agent has been criticised for the
bullish manner in which he has tried to engineer
an exit for Sterling, previously saying that not even
a €1m-a-week contract could tempt the youngster
to stay .
And now another of Ward's clients, in-demand
West Brom striker Saido Berahino, has parted
company with the controversial agent, with reports
suggesting that he had become disillusioned with
the tactics employed in the Sterling transfer saga.
"I'm no longer working with Saido. You'll have to
ask him for the reasons," Ward remarked.
Berahino, 21, has been linked with a host of clubs,
including Newcastle and Tottenham, after an
excellent campaign in which he scored 14 goals in
38 Premier League matches, as well as bagging
five goals in the FA Cup.
