Manchester United VS Real Madrid

Manchester United will only increase their bid for
Sergio Ramos if Real Madrid agree to do the same
for David De Gea.
United have submitted an offer close to £30m for
Ramos, believing it to be a fair valuation for a
player already in his 30s.
Real rejected United’s offer as too little, but United
are unwilling to table an improved offer for Ramos
unless the La Liga club are ready to follow suit
with De Gea.
United dismissed Real’s opening offer for De Gea
because they value the 24-year-old at £35m,
despite him having just one year left on his
contract.
Although United made their offer for Ramos
independently of De Gea’s situation, there is an
acceptance at Old Trafford that the two deals are
likely to have to be merged at some stage and a
compromise reached between the clubs.

Begovic looks set to join Chelsea

Chelsea have reportedly reached an
agreement with Stoke for the transfer of
Asmir Begovic.
The Bosnian goalkeeper was already
understood to have agreed terms with the
Blues, and now the two clubs have agreed a
fee of £8million, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho is keen to bring in a
replacement for Petr Cech who, of course,
left for Arsenal, and Begovic appears to
have been identified for a move to Stamford
Bridge.
The Stoke shot-stopper is proven at
Premier League level, and would be a good
addition to Chelsea’s squad ahead of next
season.

Porto confirms Jackson Martinez will join Atletico

The Portuguese club have confirmed the striker
will depart after Atletico agreed to pay his €35
million release clause
Porto have confirmed Atletico Madrid have agreed
to pay Jackson Martinez's €35 million release
clause.
The player's agent revealed last week that the 28-
year-old would move to the Vicente Calderon after
rejecting the chance to join AC Milan.
A statement on Porto's website said: "Atletico
Madrid agreed on Tuesday to pay Jackson
Martinez's release clause to the sum of €35
million."
The Colombia striker has spent three seasons with
Porto and played 136 official matches, scoring 92
goals.
He was the top scorer in the Portuguese league in
those three campaigns, with 26 goals in 2012-13,
20 in 2013-14 and 21 in 2014-15.

Messi - Am not worried about my lack of goals

The Albiceleste captain failed to find the net during
his side's 6-1 semi-final thumping of Paraguay but
was simply pleased with the team display
Lionel Messi asserted that he is not concerned by
failing to get among the goals for Argentina as
they thrashed Paraguay 6-1 in the Copa América
semi-final on Tuesday.
The Albiceleste captain was an influential figure for
Gerardo Martino's men in Concepción, supplying
three assists and earning the Man of the Match
award .
He failed to find the net during the comprehensive
victory over La Albirroja at the Estadio Ester Roa
but insisted that the team's impeccable display
more than made up for it.
"I am not too worried that I did not score any
goals. We played a complete game," Messi told
reporters after the match.
"We did what we were doing in the previous
matches. We follow the same idea.
"We fulfilled the first objective of being in another
final. We are very excited that we can be
champions."
The victory set up a date with hosts Chile in the
final at the Estadio Nacional on July 4.
Messi - who has scored just one goal so far at
Copa América 2015 - is predicting a tight
encounter and revealed his eagerness to get his
hands on a trophy with Argentina.
"It is a final and I am hopeful. It will be a close
game," he added.
"Winning the Copa would round off something
spectacular. I really want to win something with
the national team."
Despite the manner of their semi-final win, Javier
Mascherano does not feel that they will have the
upper hand on La Roja in Santiago on Saturday.
"Now we are not going back. We will continue to
play our way," he said.
"We are going to play a final, not a war. We are
brotherly countries.
"I do not see a clear favourite in the final. Whoever
does the best things will be the

Silva-things always go against Portugal

The Seleccao were beaten in Tuesday's U21
European Championship final by Sweden on
penalties
Portugal Under-21 midfielder Bernardo Silva
revealed his hurt after his nation were beaten by
Sweden on penalties in Tuesday's U21 European
Championship final.
The game ended 0-0 after extra-time before the
Scandinavians won 4-3 on spot-kicks after
Sporting's William Carvalho missed from 18 yards.
"Of course it hurts, because we lost," Silva told
Sport TV.
"It is certainly a great disappointment to lose this
way. But we played a good tournament and we
must be proud of our work, although it is not good
to lose a final like this.
"It's a reality that with Portugal, in the decisive
moments, it almost always goes the other way. I
do not know if it's luck or anything we can do
more .
"It is a great disappointment to lose like that."
Silva has been arguably the tournament's best
player but was quiet on the night and didn't take a
penalty in the shoot-out.

Barcelona can be the greatest football brand

The presidential candidate hopes to see the club
become a symbol for world football in the next six
years and feels he can deliver that if he is elected
Josep Maria Bartomeu says he wants to see
Barcelona become the most dominant force in
world football and a symbol for the sport.
The Catalan side are one of the game's elite sides,
with their position at the top of the game boosted
further by last season's treble - their second in six
years.
Bartomeu, who succeeded Sandro Rosell as the
club's president and is hoping to be returned in
the election on July 18, says his vision is to see
Barca become the Apple, NASA and Facebook of
football.
“By 2021, we want Barca to be to football what
Apple is to computers, NASA for space exploration
or Facebook for social media,” he said at a

Barcelona will have an advantage getting Pogba

The ex-Blaugrana supremo feels his relationship
with Mino Raiola and Eric Abidal's friendship with
the Juventus midfielder gives the Catalans the
edge in attracting him
Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta
believes his good rapport with Mino Raiola and
Eric Abidal's friendship with Paul Pogba will be ke
to persuading the Juventus ace to move to Camp
Nou.
Pogba is one of the most in-demand players in
world football at the moment, with Chelsea,
Manchester City, Manchester United and Paris
Saint-Germain all interested in the midfielder.
However, Laporta believes that Barca would have
clear advantage in the race to sign him should he
beat Josep Maria Bartomeu to the presidency in
next month's elections as he has previously done
deals with Pogba's agent, Raiola.
Furthermore, the former Barca supremo says that
ex-France international Abidal, whom he hopes to
appoint as his technical secretary, is on friendly
terms with his compatriot.
"We feel that the key to a potential signing of
Pogba is Mino Raiola, with whom we get on with
very well, both Abidal and myself," Laporta told
reporters.
"We carried out negotiations with him for the deal
involving Maxwell and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
"Abidal also knows Pogba on a personal level and
if this is something that gives the supporters
confidence in our project, then, we’ll talk to Juve,
as he would be a positive addition.
"I haven't spoken with the player or his club as
being a pre-candidate forbids me from doing so.
"But there is no doubt that he would be a great
signing for the club.
"We’ve reviewed this with Abidal and he would fit
in perfectly with our style and give us added
quality and strength.
"He’s a player with a unique manner of playing. It
would be great to secure his signature."
While Barca cannot currently register new arrivals
on account of their Fifa-imposed transfer ban, the
can sign players this summer and then field them
from the start of 2016 onwards.

Sergio Ramos is staying in Madrid - Mother

Reports on Monday claimed the defender had
informed the club of his desire to leave the club
for Man United but his parent says he wants to
stay put
The mother of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos
has denied speculation her son wants to join
Manchester United.
There were widespread reports on Monday that the
defender had informed Madrid of his desire to
move to Old Trafford, with United said to have
made a bid for the 29-year-old.
Ramos's discontent at the Bernabeu is believed to
stem from president Florentino Perez's failure to
deliver on his promise to reward him with a new
and improved contract.
But, in a fresh twist to the saga, the Spain
international's mother has revealed his intention
remains to stay at Madrid.
Paqui Ramos told Antena 3: "Of course, his first
choice is to stay at Madrid. Manchester United? I
don't think so, he wants to stay in Spain."
At the start of the month, Barcelona presidential
candidate Jordi Majo claimed he had been offered
Ramos by his agent as an 'electoral trump card' .

BREAKING NEWS : Leicester City sacks Pearson

Leicester City have sacked manager Nigel
Pearson, the club have announced.
Despite a miraculous run at the end of the
Premier League season for the Foxes,
meaning Leicester finished in 14th, the
club have made the decision to relieve
Pearson of his duties.
A statement on the club’s website read:
‘The Board of Directors recognises the
success Nigel has helped to bring to
Leicester City during his two spells in
charge of the Club, particularly during the
last three and a half years.
‘However, it has become clear to the Club
that fundamental differences in perspective
exist between us.
Regrettably, the Club believes that the
working relationship between Nigel and the
Board is no longer viable.’
The Board went on to thank Pearson for the
contribution he has made since arriving for
his second stint at the King Power Stadium
in 2011.

I almost join Arsenal in 2002

The Czech international, the Gunners' first summer
signing, could have moved to north London in
2002 but was denied a work permit, so went to
Rennes in France instead
Petr Cech has revealed he could have become an
Arsenal player more than a decade ago had work
permit restrictions not scuppered a switch to the
Premier League.
The Czech Republic international completed a
move to Emirates Stadium from rivals Chelsea on
Monday after falling becoming second choice for
Jose Mourinho behind Thibaut Courtois.
However, Cech could have been first choice at
Arsenal much sooner had their original move for
him in 2002 gone through, with the goalkeeper
instead leaving Sparta Prague for Rennes, before
arriving at Chelsea for what became a memorable
11-year stint.
"There was a chance before I went to France to
join Rennes for me to sign for Arsenal, but I was
only 18 or 19 and, at that time, Czech Republic
were not in the European Union," he told the club's
official website.

Arda Turan to sign fora new team in coming days - Agent

Arda Turan’s agent has confirmed his client
will sign for a new team ‘within days’ amid
talk Manchester United have agreed to pay
his release clause.
Turan, who is now certain to be leaving
Atletico Madrid, has been in negotiations
with ‘three or four’ clubs for the last few
days.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked
to the Turkey international, but after reports
claimed United have agreed to pay his
£29.2million buy-out clause, Turan’s agent
says he’s close to joining a new team.
‘In the next four days Arda will decide on
his next club,’ said Ahmet Bulut.
‘When you find out who his new team are
you’ll agree we made the right decision.’
Turan has already ruled out a switch to
Paris Saint Germain this week, clearing the
way for a move to the Premier League.

Messi and Barca will win more titles

The Milan legend believes the Catalans' No.10 is
destined toleave a better legacy than Diego
Maradona and lauded the treble-winners' talent
Italian legend Paolo Maldini has predicted that
Lionel Messi and his current Barcelona comrades
are destined to “break all the records”.
In Luis Enrique's first season in charge at Camp
Nou, the Catalans won La Liga, the Copa del Rey
and the Champions League to complete the second
treble in the club's history.
Having matched the achievements of Pep
Guardiola's 2009 side, Maldini thinks Messi,
Neymar and Luis Suarez can help Barca leave an
even greater mark in the history books in the
coming campaigns.
"Messi, Neymar and Suarez are phenomenal and
the statistics speak for themselves," the iconic
former defender told Sky Sport .
"Barcelona have already made history and the
team's destined to break all the records."
Maldini, who won five European Cups and
Champions League titles during his illustrious AC
Milan career, also thinks that Messi could
ultimately be considered better than former Serie A
and international adversary Diego Maradona.
"Leo Messi is the best player in the world," he
added. "From what I'm seeing, he's approaching
the point where he is perhaps overtaking Maradona
in terms of everything he's achieved in recent
years."

De Bruyne staying at Wolfsburg

The 24-year-old is wanted by Manuel Pellegrini's
side but the Bundesliga club's sporting director
reveals that talks will begin over a lucrative
contract extension
Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs insists that
the club have no plans to sell Kevin De Bruyne this
summer.
Goal understands that the Belgium international is
wanted by Manchester City , while the attacker
confirmed earlier in June that the Premier League
side have made "informal contact" with his agent.
However, Wolfsburg remain adamant that they have
no intention of allowing De Bruyne to leave and
Allofs has revealed that the club will look to extend
the 24-year-old's contract with a significant pay
increase.
"Kevin has a contract until 2019, hence the
message is already sent. He will stay with us," he
told Sport1 .
"Nevertheless, we said: 'We look at his contract
again'. The aim is also to take into account Kevin's
extraordinary development.
"We try to have our best players on the best
salaries so we will make a proposal and I think we
will very quickly reach an agreement here

Cardiff to host 2017 CL final

The 74,500-seater stadium hosted the Uefa Super
Cup in 2014, while the 2017 Europa League final
will be held in Sweden and that year's Super Cup
will go to Skopje
Uefa has confirmed that the Millennium Stadium
will host the 2017 Champions League final.
Cardiff last hosted a Uefa tournament in 2014 when
a first-half double from Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a
2-0 win for Real Madrid over Sevilla in the Super
Cup.
“These are exciting times for Welsh football. It feels
like the whole country is behind us as we attempt
to reach next year's Euro 2016 finals in France,"
said Gareth Bale.
"I know how passionate the Welsh football fans are
so it's great the Champions League final is coming
to my home city of Cardiff.
"I loved playing in the Super Cup last year and it
would be fantastic to be involved in front of a
packed crowd at such an iconic stadium in 2017."
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey was also buoyed
by the announcement that the final will be held in
his home nation for the first time.
"What a season it has been for Wales and Welsh
football," the 24-year-old enthused. "What with last
year's Super Cup, the unforgettable support and
atmosphere at our recent match against Belgium,
Wales topping their Euro 2016 qualifying group and
now this wonderful news."
Elsewhere, Uefa announced that the 2017 Europa
League final will be held in the Friends Arena in
Solna, Sweden.
The 2017 Super Cup, meanwhile, will be played in
Skopje's National Arena Filip II of Macedonia.

Di Maria best talent in Manchester united

EXCLUSIVE: The defender has backed his
compatriot after a difficult first season at Old
Trafford and believes Real Madrid target David De
Gea is one of the world's best goalkeepers
Marcos Rojo believes Angel Di Maria remains the
“most talented player” at Manchester United
despite his frustrating first season at Old Trafford.
The Argentina star was signed for a Premier
League record £59.7 million from Real Madrid last
summer and impressed in his first appearances in
a United shirt.
A wonderful chipped effort in the 5-3 defeat to
Leicester City in October marked a high point in
his early-season form but he has since struggled
for consistency, and spent the final weeks of the
season on the bench.
Rojo, who is likely to start alongside Di Maria
when Argentina take on Paraguay in the Copa
America semi-finals, remains confident his class
will eventually shine through.
“For me, the player with the most talent at
Manchester United is Angel,” Rojo told Goal .
“There are great players at the club, but Angel for
me is one of the best in the team and in the world.
“It has been a difficult year for him. He had some
problems adapting, but that’s normal. Any player
coming to a new country and a new league has to
adapt to the differences and that’s what happens.
But I’m sure he will do really well in the months
ahead.”
It promises to be another summer of transition at
United, with the club having already completed the
signing of Dutch winger Memphis Depay from PSV.

Argentina flaws piles Pressure on Messi

COMMENT: The Barcelona forward has been in fine
form at the Copa America, but is still lacking help
from his team-mates as the Albiceleste struggle to
score goals at Chile 2015
By Ben Haywayd in Concepcion
Lionel Messi could not believe his luck.
Colombia's David Ospina's outrageous save denied
the Argentine attacker from a close-range header
on Friday and four full games into the Copa
America, the Barcelona forward has only one goal
to his name - a penalty against Paraguay in his
opening match.
"It's unbelievable the trouble I'm having in scoring
with the national team," the 28-year-old lamented
after his side overcame Colombia on penalties in
the quarter-finals. But it is not just Messi. Despite
their fine football, Argentina have netted only four
goals in as many games at Chile 2015 - and that
is putting even greater pressure on their captain in
this tournament.
Since scoring twice in the first half against
Paraguay, the Albiceleste have added just two
more goals in 324 minutes of football. Sergio
Aguero's header was enough to see Gerardo
Martino's men beat Uruguay 1-0, while Gonzalo
Higuain's goal edged out Jamaica by the same
scoreline and Argentina needed penalties to defeat
Colombia following a goalless game against Jose
Pekerman's side in the last eight.
"It is clear we have a problem with our finishing,"
Martino said at the pre-match press conference on
Monday ahead of his side's semi-final against
Paraguay. "There is a red mark against our finish
¡ng and it is something we have to improve on.
But I agree with Javier (Mascherano) that it is
more of a coincidence than anything else."
Perhaps. But the problem is more than just the
finishing. The return of Lazio's Lucas Biglia in
midfield for Argentina's second game, against
Uruguay, gave Martino's men better balance
defensively than with Ever Banega there, but it has
also restricted the Albiceleste attack.
"Biglia gives us more balance in midfield," Tata
said ahead of the 2-2 draw against Paraguay on
June 13. "But Banega gives us more play." With
the Lazio midfielder short of full fitness, the Sevilla
man started that game and Argentina played
probably their best and worst football of the
competition in a classic game of two halves in La
Serena.
With Biglia back, they look more solid. Goals,
however, have been hard to come by with him on
the pitch. For all Tata's talk about the importance
of style, he has two defensive-minded midfielders
in the team in Biglia and Javier Mascherano, while
the third (Javier Pastore) is often too far from the
opposition area and has been unable to link up
effectively with the forwards on the edge of the
box.
That has left striker Sergio Aguero isolated, while
Angel Di Maria is still struggling to find form for
his country in this tournament.
"Before the friendly against Germany last year, I
said Di Maria was one of the five best footballers in
the world," Martino said on Monday when asked
about Angel. "And I maintain that." In truth,
however, the Manchester United winger is nowhere
near his best.
Di Maria thrives when attacking spaces at speed,
but Argentina have faced four defensive rivals so
far in this Copa and only against Jamaica did the
former Real Madrid winger really impress.
Up against rivals squeezing spaces, Martino is
keen for his full-backs to push forward and help
the attack. That, however, is another problem
because Marcos Rojo is a converted centre-back
who offers very little offensively and Pablo Zabaleta
lacks the pace to really threaten down the right -
although he did set up Aguero's goal against
Uruguay with an excellent cross.
That strike saw Argentina at their very best. Some
superb trickery from Pastore took two defenders
out of the equation, Zabaleta then whipped in a
pinpoint centre and Aguero headed home. And
more of that is now needed if Argentina are to go
all the way in to the title in Santiago next weekend.

Schneiderlin to complete Man Utd move within the next 48hours

Morgan Schneiderlin will travel to Manchester
within the next 48 hours to undergo a medical
before finalising a move to Old Trafford.
And Manchester United expect to seal the £24m
signing of the midfielder before the end of this
week.
Van Gaal has moved for Schneiderlin after
abandoning his pursuit of Roma midfielder Kevin
Strootman, whose failure to prove his fitness after
a cruciate ligament injury has ended United’s
interest in the Holland international.
With Michael Carrick approaching his 34th birthday
in July, the recent injury problems suffered by the
midfielder have prompted Van Gaal targeting
Schneiderlin.

COMMENT: Next season’s Champions League is
here already and Gibraltar’s one-club hero Lee
Casciaro is hoping for glory... with a little help
from his friends
By Brian Oliver
After the departure of Xavi, it is left to John Terry,
Francesco Totti and Andres Iniesta to fly the flag
for the “one-club men” in the Champions League.
And Lee Casciaro.
Unlike the other three, Casciaro has to ask his
boss for time off from his day job and persuade
workmates to do his shifts for him in order to play
in the world’s foremost club competition. His club,
which he joined at the age of eight, is Lincoln FC,
who are embarking on their second season of
Champions League football since Gibraltar gained
membership of Uefa in 2013.
Lincoln have only one fulltime professional, the
former Portsmouth midfielder Liam Walker, and
their players will not earn in a decade what Terry
and Totti earn in a day.
Until recently nobody outside Gibraltar had ever
heard of Casciaro. He put his name in the football
record books at Hampden Park, Glasgow in March
when he scored Gibraltar’s first goal in a
competitive match, in the 6-1 defeat by Scotland.
Now he is aiming for more glory. In another
football first, the preliminaries for the Champions
League start in the same month as the previous
season’s final. Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Juventus
was on June 6, and the first qualifying round starts
on Tuesday, June 30.
Lincoln FC take on Santa Coloma, from Andorra, on
the artificial pitch at Victoria Park - Gibraltar’s
2,400-capacity stadium which is shared by all the
teams in the league. Lincoln have had barely a
week since the draw to prepare for the game.
“That’s not enough time to market it properly but
we still hope for a crowd of 1,700,” said Lincoln’s
coach, Mick McElwee.
Welcome to Gibraltar | The territory's population
was estimated at just 30,000 in 2012
“Santa Coloma’s ground only holds about 1,300,
but it will be full for the second leg (on July 7) and
the atmosphere will be good in both legs. We will
be competitive, but we are aware that they went
through to the second round last year when their
goalkeeper scored in injury time.”
That was against FC Banants of Armenia. Santa
Coloma’s keeper, Eloy Casals, went up for one last
push and fired in the goal that sent the Andorrans
through on away goals. “From now on, I will think
everything impossible is possible,” Casals said
afterwards.
In the same round Lincoln, who were making their
Champions League debut, drew 1-1 at home to HB,
of the Faroe Islands. They were pushing for an
equaliser at 2-3 in the away leg when they
conceded two late goals and lost 5-2.
“We were a bit naïve,” said Casciaro. “This time we
know what to expect. Seventy per cent of our
squad play international football for Gibraltar and
they have gained experience. This year we know a
bit more about what to expect and I’ll be
disappointed if we don’t make it into the second
round.”
Casciaro, 34, works for the Ministry of Defence in
Gibraltar and was rostered to work on Monday and
Tuesday. He can get time off for international
games but it is harder for club games unless he
has plenty of notice.
“I had to ask permission from my boss to swap
shifts, but he’s a football fan and that helps” said
Casciaro, whose younger brothers Kyle and Ryan
also play for Lincoln and Gibraltar. “I then had to
ask my friends to work my shifts, so I’ll have to do
their shifts later on.”
STADIUM | Lincoln play their home games at the
Victoria Stadium, which holds 2,400 people
Lincoln were originally called the Blue Batons, a
junior team founded by police officers so their
sons could play football. They changed their name,
and began their relentless rise to domination, in
the 1970s.
Reg Brealey, a director of Lincoln City who later
became chairman of Sheffield United, had
businesses in Gibraltar. He took an interest in the
Blue Batons, became a benefactor, and the club
changed its name in 1976.
Brealey started by providing kit. Lincoln still need
sponsors for that role, as they run 19 teams from
under-sevens upwards. The first team’s shirt
sponsors are the Gibraltar Tourist Board.
Lincoln, who have won the league for 13 straight
seasons, have a fulltime sporting director and
development officer but many roles are carried out
by volunteers, including the Uefa paperwork and
rail-and-coach travel arrangements to Andorra.

Raiola told me Ibra. Might punch Pep

The Swedish striker had an infamously tumultuous

Barcelona presidential candidate has revealed
Zlatan Ibrahimovic's agent told him the forward

The Swedish striker spent an infamously ill-fated
season at Camp Nou in 2009-10, where his
relationship with the head coach soured to an
unworkable point, leading to his exit to AC Milan
the following campaign.
Mino Raiola, the agent of the current Paris Saint-

intriguing anecdotal experience with Raiola five

Every Shot was flying in-Vargas

Despite an ongoing knee injury, the Chilean
attacker claims he had confidence against Peru
due to his shooting efforts on Saturday
Chile's match-winner Eduardo Vargas claims that
he suspected goals were coming against Peru afte
scoring "every shot" in training on Saturday.
The 25-year-old striker scored both goals in
Santiago on Monday to send his nation into the
Copa America final at Peru's expense.
In the 42nd minute, Vargas tapped in from
close range after Alexis Sanchez's cross came
back off the post, while the Napoli man wrapped
up Chile's 2-1 victory with 26 minutes remaining,
blasting the ball into the top corner from 25 yards.
"I was practicing shooting on Saturday and the
truth is that every shot went in," Vargas said,
according to La Tercera. "Today, I had the
confidence."
Vargas' double took him to 22 goals for his
country, putting him level with former attacking
midfielder Jorge Aravena as the sixth-highest
scorer in Chile's history.
The Santiago-born striker claimed he could barely
feel his injured knee as he led Chile to victory.
"My knee bothers me in some plays but thank Go
it was nothing against Peru and I could keep
playing," he added.

Will the sale of Cech split Roman and Mourinho?

The billionaire Russian set aside his pride and
footballing vision to bring his most successful
coach back; now football's most uncompromising
winner must sacrifice
COMMENT By Liam Twomey Follow on
Twitter
Two years into his return to Stamford Bridge as
the self-proclaimed ‘Happy One’, Jose Mourinho’s
serenity has been remarkable.
Publicly there have been the inevitable headlines,
explosive barbs at rival managers and talk of
media “campaigns”, but privately Chelsea’s most
successful ever manager no longer gives the
impression of a man capable of starting a fight in
an empty room.
Instead, management and ownership are pulling in
the same direction. Mourinho’s working
relationship with Roman Abramovich’s most
trusted lieutenants – technical director Michael
Emenalo and de facto chief executive Marina
Granovskaia – has been low-key but spectacularly
productive, restoring Chelsea to the pinnacle of
English football while complying with Uefa’s
Financial Fair Play rules.
But the alliances that have underpinned the
Stamford Bridge resurgence were always going to
be tested sooner or later, and that moment has
arrived. Mourinho did not want to lose Petr Cech to
anyone, much less a Premier League rival.
Abramovich’s desire to do right by Chelsea’s
greatest ever goalkeeper has seen his manager
overruled on both counts.
The question now is how Mourinho reacts. He has
in recent weeks spoken like a man at peace with
his powerlessness when it comes to Cech, less
than satisfied but respectful of Abramovich’s final
judgement. “The owner is the owner,” he told
reporters earlier this month. “He is the person with
the perspective I admire a lot, respect a lot… I will
have to accept any decision that the owner has.”
Such magnanimity is a far cry from Mourinho’s
witty yet bullish take on the division of labour with
Abramovich in March 2005, as he powered
towards his first Premier League title at Stamford
Bridge. “If he helped me out in training we would
be bottom of the league - and if I had to work in
his world of big business we would be bankrupt,”
he insisted.
History tells us that when Mourinho is forced to
acquiesce on matters of power, personnel or both,
things tend to end badly.
Andriy Shevchenko’s arrival and the appointments
of Frank Arnesen and Avram Grant prompted civil
war in his first spell at Chelsea, while every bridge
to president Florentino Perez was ultimately
burned by an all-consuming public struggle with
entrenched senior players at Real Madrid.

experience in the Spanish capital and has so far
delivered on his pledge to work within the existing
power structure at Chelsea – but in reality it is
Abramovich who has sacrificed most.
Billionaires do not generally become so without a
stubborn courage in their own convictions.
Bringing back Mourinho in the summer of 2013 at
vast expense was a remarkable climbdown for
Abramovich, having paid £10.5 million (€15m) just
to see the back of the brash Portuguese maestro
six years earlier.
He then sanctioned the sales of Juan Mata and
David Luiz, reportedly two of his personal
favourites and the emerging leaders of the new
Chelsea, because they did not fit his manager’s
vision. Mourinho was also permitted to abandon
the Fernando Torres vanity project, even if plain
logic dictated that decision every bit as much as
the manager.
In terms of signings, Mourinho has for the second
time been given the freedom to build a Chelsea
team to his unique specifications, if not quite a
squad. John Terry’s position as defensive leader
was restored at his insistence and Didier Drogba
was brought back for one last hurrah. This
summer his fingerprints are all over the
controversial decision to give Radamel Falcao
another Premier League chance when most other
top clubs would run a mile.
On the pitch, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa lend
the Blues a far more powerful, bruising and at
times divisive profile than was originally intended
for the next great side to grace Stamford Bridge,
while a pragmatic, win-at-all-costs philosophy is
again paramount.

Open letter to Chelsea fans by Cech

As the end of his 11-year spell at Stamford Bridge
was confirmed on Monday, the Czech Republic
goalkeeper salutes all those involved with the
Blues for their time together
New Arsenal signing Petr Cech has written an
emotional open letter to Chelsea fans after his £11
million move to the Emirates Stadium was
confirmed.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper brought to an end an
11-year spell with the Blues after falling behind
Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order at Stamford
Bridge.
Highlighting his desire to stay in the Premier
League and thanking staff and supporters for their
work together over the years, Cech posted the
message on social media as his transfer was
announced.
Cech's letter in full:
"I thought this would never happen but it is time
for me to say goodbye to Chelsea. The club I have
lived every single minute for since joining in July
2004, the club in which I thought I'd hang my
gloves and boots one day and finish my career.

Official - Petr Cech completes Arsenal move

The Czech goalkeeper has completed his move to
north London despite Jose Mourinho being keen
for him to stay, ending his 11-year association
with the Premier League champions
Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper
Petr Cech from London rivals Chelsea on a long-
term contract for an undisclosed fee.
The 33-year-old completed his medical on Friday
and has now signed a £100,000-a-week contract
(€140,000), immediately making him one of the
club's highest earners alongside Mesut Ozil and
Alexis Sanchez.
The £11 million (€15.5m) capture of Cech
represents Arsenal's first signing of the summer,
though Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had been
hugely reluctant to allow the veteran goalkeeper to
join a rival.
Mourinho was keen to retain Cech as backup to
Thibaut Courtois, but owner Roman Abramovich
wanted to show respect for the Czech's 11 years of
distinguished service so ceded to his wishes for
first-team football as well as his desire to keep his
young family in London .
Cech has played a key role in the most successful
era of the Blues' history, winning four Premier
League titles, the Champions League, Europa
League, FA Cup and League Cup during his time at
Stamford Bridge.
Despite being reduced to a bit-part role last
season, Cech still showed his goalkeeping prowess
by recording five clean sheets in his seven Premier
League appearances.
His departure leaves Mourinho in need of a new
shot-stopper to provide cover for Courtois, and the
Blues have already identified Stoke City's Asmir
Begovic as a primary target for the role.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are expected to sell
Fenerbahce target David Ospina to make room for
Cech, with Wojciech Szczesny to be his
understudy, and the Czech could yet be followed to
the Emirates Stadium by Chelsea goalkeeping
coach Christophe Lollichon.

Couldn't sleep after Copa Exit

The Chelsea ace has expressed his sadness at the
Selecao's elimination in Chile but urged his team-
mates to lift themselves for World Cup qualification
Brazil star Willian has admitted his heartache at
Brazil’s Copa America quarter-final defeat to
Paraguay, revealing that he endured a sleepless
night after the Selecao's penalty shootout failure in
Concepcion.
The five-time world champions arrived in Chile as
favourites to lift the trophy, after racking up 10
consecutive Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour victories
under new coach Dunga.
However, Brazil bowed out after losing 4-3 on
penalties following a 1-1 draw with Paraguay and
Willian was devastated by the Selecao's failure to
claim a ninth South America crown.
“Everyone is sad about the defeat,” the attacker
told reporters in Rio de Janeiro.
“It was a very long night, I could not sleep. I kept
thinking about the game. But we must move
forward. Now we must lift our heads as there it a
lot more to come. “
Defender Miranda, who took over as captain in
Chile following Neymar's tournament-ending
suspension, echoed the Chelsea ace’s sentiments.
“It's sad, unfortunately things did not go as the
team wanted,” the centre-half added.
“We came here looking to change the picture and
but did not happen. Now it is time to raise your
head and think of World Cup qualifying.”

Muniain extends Bibao stay

Just a year since his last extension, the Spain
international has agreed fresh terms with the
Bilbao-based club to bump his potential value
Iker Muniain has extended his contract with
Athletic Bilbao, signing a new deal that will keep
him at San Mames until 2019.
The 22-year-old attacker agreed fresh terms only
a year ago, committing himself to the Basque club
until 2017 with a buy-out clause of €37.5 million.
However, Muniain - a reported target for
Manchester United in previous seasons - will now
remain under contract at Athletic for a further two
years, while the buy-out clause has been
increased to €45m.
A one-time Spain international, the versatile
forward missed the latter stages of his club's most
recent La Liga campaign with a serious knee
injury.
Following surgery on a ruptured anterior cruciate
ligament in his left knee in May, Muniain is
expected to be out of action until the start of next
year.

Manchester City monitoring Fabinho

City director Txiki Begiristain is driving the Premier
League club's interest in the full-back but his
€25.4 million valuation could prove a stumbling
block
Manchester City are considering a move for
Monaco right-back Fabinho , Goal understands.
The 21-year-old was part of Dunga's Brazil squad
for Copa America although failed to make an
appearance in Chile as the Selecao were dumped
out at the quarter-final stage by Paraguay.
Goal understands that City have been monitoring
the defender closely in recent weeks, with director
Txiki Begiristain driving the Premier League club's
interest in the Brazilian.
Any negotiations are, however, likely to be held up
over a fee for the promising full-back, who has
been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United,
with Monaco determined to hold out for a figure in
the region of €25.4 million.
City value the defender, who has two full caps for
Brazil, at the €11m mark but could well change
their stance should they be convinced he will be
ready to eventually replace first-choice right-back
Pablo Zabaleta.
Once on Real Madrid's books, Fabinho only made
one appearance for the Liga giants after signing on
a temporary deal from Rio Ave back in 2012, where
he was frequently utilised in the club's 'B' team.
He then made the switch to Ligue 1 with Monaco,
where he has emerged as the club's first-choice
right-back and made over 60 appearances for
Leonardo Jardim's side over the last couple of
seasons.
Monaco moved to make Fabinho's loan deal
permanent back in May 2015 although his rapid
rise has alerted the attention of City, who are
considering a deal for a player that the club's
scouts believe could develop into a top-class
right-back.

Thiago Silva reveals handball regrets

The Brazil star insists he wasn't even aware of the
incident until he saw a replay after the game
Brazil defender Thiago Silva has expressed his
regret at giving away the penalty that handed
Paraguay an equaliser in their Copa America
quarter-final defeat on Saturday.
The Selecao were leading 1-0 before the PSG
centre-back handled the ball in the 72nd minute as
he and Dani Alves both attempted to head the ball
clear.
Derlis Gonzalez converted the resulting penalty,
before Paraguay went on to win 4-3 on penalties.
“I didn’t even know the ball had hit my hand," said
Thiago Silva. "I only saw what had happened when
I saw videos later at the hotel.
“That is why my face was one of such
astonishment, I did not understand what the
referee had seen. The referee didn’t even know if it
was my hand or Dani’s.”
Having arrived in Chile on the back of 10
consecutive Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour victories,
the Selecao struggled to reproduce their fine post-
World Cup form at the Copa America.
Dunga's men won just two of their four games
and Thiago Silva says the team must work hard to
improve ahead of the upcoming World Cup
qualifiers.
“Of course we have to try to play a little more,” he
said. “In the second half against Paraguay the truth
is we hardly saw the colour of the ball."

Ronaldo sells image rights to Valencia owner

The Real Madrid star has announced he has linked
up with Singapore billionaire Peter Lim for his
latest venture
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he has struck an
image rights deal with Valencia owner Peter Lim
as he bids to grow his personal brand in Asia.
The Real Madrid star, 30, was recently named the
third best paid athlete in the world in Forbes'
annual rich list and has his sights set on
enhancing his wealth even further.

Vidal/Jara - Chile ruining own Copa bid

COMMENT: After the Juventus star's car crash their
influential defender has been banned for three
matches for his cheeky poke on Edinson Cavani
By Peter Staunton in Santiago
Gonzalo Jara poked his way to infamy against
Uruguay in the Copa America quarter-final last
Wednesday. His provocation of Edinson Cavani
earned the long-haired forward a red card but the
referee failed to take action against the Chile
defender.
Subsequently, the images of Jara with his finger on
Cavani's backside have been prominent in the
capital all week along; they were splashed across
the newspapers and television screens as Chile
waited to discover his fate. Some people laugh
about it, some despair at his act.
His club, Mainz 05, in the Bundesliga have scalded
him for the play-acting which followed Cavani's
slap to the face in response to the assault.
Previous evidence of his gamesmanship in
matches against Uruguay have been dredged up
and replayed. Former Uruguay defender Diego
Lugano threatened to have a "talk" with him after
the tournament.

I'll show Eden who's the best Hazard

The younger brother of the Chelsea star is hoping
Gladbach get a chance to face the Premier League
winners in next season's Champions League
Eden Hazard 's younger brother Thorgan is hoping
for a Champions League showdown between
Chelsea and Borussia Monchengladbach so he can
prove he is the better footballer.
Eden, 24, was crowned the PFA Player of the Year
after winning the Premier League and League
Cup in 2014-15.
Thorgan, meanwhile, secured an €8 million move
away from Chelsea to Gladbach this summer after
an impressive loan spell at the club last season.
A third place finish in the Bundesliga means the
club will play in the Champions League next term
and Thorgan is hoping for a meeting with his older
brother in Europe.
"My desire is for Chelsea to be among Gladbach's
Champions League opponents this campaign," the
22-year-old told Bild . "I've never played against
my brother Eden competitively, that would be a
great thing for our whole family.
He added, chuckling: "Then we can see who the
better Hazard is!"
Thorgan also insisted he would be endeavouring to
demonstrate why he deserves the No.10 jersey in
his second campaign in German football.
"The No.10 position is my best position, but I do
not know how the coach plans to play me," Hazard
added. "I have shown that I can also play on the
wing.
"I learned a lot last season, I think I became a
better player. I was able to play in one of the
strongest leagues in the world.
"Of course, I hope that next season I will play a bit
more, but I know that the competition for places is
huge. This is normal at a big club. I will work hard
and have to play well to assert myself."

Unal to complete Man City move

The agent of the 18-year-old Turkey international
says his client will fly to England in the coming
days to agree personal terms and undergo a
medical
Turkey wonderkid Enes Unal will fly to England this
week to complete a move to Manchester City ,
according to the player's agent.
Last week Bursaspor president Recep Bolukbasi
confirmed that an agreement had been reached
with City over the transfer of the 18-year-old
striker , who is regarded as the brightest talent in
his homeland.
And Batur Altiparmak has now revealed that his
client will travel to Manchester to undergo a
medical and discuss personal terms in the coming
days.
"Bursaspor and Manchester City have agreed to
make a deal in principle," Altiparmak told Danish
publication PLBOLD .
"The only thing that needs to be sorted out now is
the agreement [between Ünal and Man City] and
medical. He's flying to Manchester in the coming
week.
"There has been interest from clubs in Europe for
two years now, but I can't mention their names."
City have agreed a fee that could rise to €2.8
million for Unal, with Bursaspor due a 10 per cent
sell-on fee in the event of any future transfer.
A work permit for Unal is yet to be confirmed and
it is understood that the youngster will be loaned
out for a year if one is not granted.

Dzeko would join Roman

The midfielder says his international team-mate
would even be prepared to take a pay cut to move
to Italy
Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic claims compatriot
Edin Dzeko "would run" to join him at the Serie A
club.
Manchester City striker Dzeko has been linked with
a move to the Stadio Olimpico, having found
regular game time hard to come by in 2014-15.
The 29-year-old appeared only 22 times in the
Premier League last term, his lowest tally since
2010-11, when he played 15 matches in his first
season in Manchester after joining during
the January transfer window.
And Bosnia-Herzegovina team-mate Pjanic has
fuelled speculation that Dzeko will be playing in
Italy next season by suggesting the Blues star
would even be willing to take a pay cut to leave
the Etihad Stadium.
"Dzeko would run to Roma and the wages won't
be a problem, as he'd adjust to them," he told
Romanews.eu. "It all depends on the club."
Dzeko scored six goals in 31 appearances in all
competitions last season.

Saying Messi name saved my life, Argentine Kidnapped in Nigeria

A 28-year-old agricultural engineer held captive
for three days in the west African country claims
name-dropping his famous compatriot calmed his
violent aggressors
An Argentine kidnapped in Nigeria claims he owes
his life to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi .
Santiago Lopez Menendez, a 28-year-old
agricultural engineer, had been working in the west
African nation since last year, planting soya and
corn crops close to Kontagora in the north-west of
the country.
But he was kidnapped earlier this week and beaten
violently by his captors, who hardly spoke any
English and thought he was north American.
It was then in desperation that Menendez tried to
tell them he was Argentine and he was eventually
able to calm down his aggressors with repeated
cries of "Messi, Messi, Messi".
Held captive for three days, the engineer was
eventually released after the company who
employs him paid an undisclosed ransom to the
kidnappers.
Back in Argentina, his brother Jorge spoke to
Clarin and said: "'Tell them I am grateful to Messi',
he told me. 'Naming him is what saved me.'"
Menendez is now safe and will return to his
homeland in the next few hours.

Southampton desperate to sign French Midfielder

Southampton are trying to push through the
transfer of Yohan Cabaye from Paris St.
Germain as quickly as possible.
The Saints are in the market for a midfielder
to replace the outgoing Morgan
Schneiderlin.
And Cabaye is their number one target,
according to Tuttomercatoweb .
They are desperate for negotiations to be as
fast as they can possibly be and to wrap up
a deal quickly.
If they can push through a move soon, they
can avoid competition from the likes of
Arsenal who remain interested but unwilling
to bid at this time.

Milan move a reality - Bacca

The Colombia international has agreed personal
terms with the Rossoneri, but the deal has yet to
be confirmed by Sevilla
Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca has confirmed he has
reached an agreement with AC Milan .
The player's agent Sergio Barila revealed over the
weekend that the player had chosen the Rossoneri
following reports linking him with a host of clubs,
including Liverpool.
Bacca has now confirmed his representative's
comments but also revealed the move is still not
"set in stone".
"It has to be finalised and every day I am linked
with a different club, but it is true that we reached
an agreement with Milan," he told DeportesEH .
"We spoke to them, my representative spoke to
them and we have an agreement with Milan, that is
the reality.
"They are the club with 100 per cent possibility of
signing me, but nothing has been set in stone
yet."
Bacca, who netted a double in the Europa League
final, has scored 34 La Liga goals in the past two
seasons, including 20 in 2014-15 as Sevilla
finished fifth.

Messi humiliated me - Puyol

The former Barcelona captain says the forward
remains unrivalled in the world game and recalled
a time he discovered the extent of the Argentine's
powers
Carles Puyol has revealed the humiliation he would
suffer at the hands of an ‘unstoppable’ Lionel
Messi during training sessions in their time at
Barcelona.
The former Barca captain retired from the game in
2014 after he and Messi shared six league titles
and three Champions League crowns with the
Catalan club.
And the 37-year-old has recalled a time when he
had to be told to tone down his physical approach
during one training session when he discovered
the true extent of the Argentinians powers.

Barca must buy to fend of Madrid

The current president wants to add to the signing
of Aleix Vidal if they are to fend off competition
from their historic rivals
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says
the club must continue to invest in the transfer
market if they are to stay ahead of Real Madrid.
Barca marched to a historic treble this season,
adding the Champions League to their league and
cup domestic double.
Sevilla’s Aleix Vidal is currently the club’s only
summer signing, though he won’t be eligible to
play until Barca’s current transfer ban is lifted in
January.
"We can't let up and by so doing hand our rivals,
such as Real Madrid, the advantage. They are
actively buying and selling players in the transfer
market,” he told a supporters group.
“The executive board should carry out functions
that benefit the club,” he added.
“Barça must strive to make the team more
competitive for the coming season."
Bartomeu is facing competition from former chief
Joan Laporta in the presidential elections, to be
held July 18, though local reports have him ahead
in the polls.
Marquee transfer signings have historically led
presidential campaigns and Laporta has suggested
he intends to bring Juventus and France midfielder
Paul Pogba to the club.
Bartomeu has been indicted by a Spanish judge on
charges of tax fraud over his part in the deal that
brought Neymar to the club in June 2013.

Jara handed three game ban

The defender will play no further part in the
competition after receiving a three-game
suspension from Conmebol
The disciplinary tribunal of Conmebol have
sanctioned Chile's Gonzalo Jara , suspending him
for three matches and subsequently ruling him out
of the rest of the Copa America.
The defender was reported to the governing body
of South American football by the Uruguayan
Football Association (AUF) after a clash with
Edinson Cavani that appeared to provoke the
Celeste striker, whose subsequent reaction was
punished with a second yellow card.
According to the Uruguayan complaint, Jara was
guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct towards the 28-
year-old.

Defoe set's 20-goal target

The former Tottenham striker scored four times
following his move to the Black Cats from Toronto
FC in January, and has expressed his delight at
Dick Advocaat signing a new deal
Jermain Defoe has set himself a target of 20 goals
next season, and has expressed his delight that
Dick Advocaat is staying on as Sunderland head
coach.
Former Tottenham striker Defoe moved to the
Stadium of Light from Toronto FC in January and
subsequently scored four goals, including a
stunning volley in a 1-0 victory over Newcastle
United that was integral to Advocaat's side
achieving Premier League survival.
The Dutchman originally stated that he would retire
from football after his spell at Sunderland before
performing a U-turn to sign a new one-year deal,
and Defoe is confident of leading the line under the
67-year-old in 2015-16.
"He [Advocaat] just said from day one that all he
wants is for the players to be sharp every day in
training, apply yourselves and do the same in the
game," Defoe told Sky Sports News .
"If you don't want to do that in training, then you
won't play, it's as simple as that. He doesn't care
who you are.
"When a new manager comes in, it keeps you on
your toes and with someone like Dick, who has
been in the game so many years, you respect
someone like that.
"During the off-season I always keep myself fit. I
try not to eat too much and get the rest - the
season is so long - but after a couple of weeks I'm
ready to go back, ready to train.
"Hopefully we'll have a good pre-season and we
can start the season really strong. People say you
should always aim for 20 goals in a season and if
I'm scoring goals it's only good for the club and
the team."

Puyol-Messi humiliated me

The former Barcelona captain says the forward

Jara mocks cavani over Father's arrest

Mario Rebollo has claimed the Chile defender made
disparaging remarks about Luis Cavani, who is
facing a prison sentence for his role in a fatal car
crash
A member of the Uruguay coaching staff has
claimed Chile defender Gonzalo Jara told Edinson
Cavani his father was “going to get 20 years in
prison” in an attempt to provoke the PSG forward.
On Sunday Conmebol confirmed Jara has been
handed a three-match ban for prodding Cavani’s
backside with a finger, which led to Cavani being
sent off for retaliation in his side’s Copa America
quarter-final defeat to Chile on Wednesday.
And Uruguay assistant coach Mario Rebollo claims
Jara also made remarks about Luis Cavani, who is
facing a prison sentence after being involved in a
traffic accident which killed a teenage motorcyclist .

DONE DEAL- MORGAN SCHNEIDERLIN TO JOIN MANCHESTER UNITED

Morgan Schneiderlin will complete £25m deal to
Manchester United from Southampton on
Wednesday.
Ed Woodward finalising the transfer in Paris on
Friday night with Schneiderlin’s advisors.
Schneiderlin has agreed a 4 year deal with United,
in which he will be earning £100,000 a week.
Arsenal and Tottenham did not want to meet the
players wage demands and the asking price for the
player.
Schneiderlin is currently 1/12 with Skybet on

Tottenham Paulinho report to Barclay for fraud on twitter

Tottenham’s Paulinho looks to be on the
brink of a £10million transfer to Guangzhou
Evergrande, and remarkably he’s getting a
pay-rise!
The Spurs midfielder has had a torrid time

Billie informed Barclays’ official page that
fraud had taken place and, believe it or not,
they replied.
The best thing about it was the genuine
concern the bank had with regards to the
case – the sad thing is, this is probably the
most exposure Paulinho has received in a
good while.

West Ham targets Real Madrid star

West Ham are reportedly interested in
completing the transfer of Real Madrid star
Alvaro Arbeloa.
The Hammers are in the marked for a new
right-back as it is unclear if Carl Jenkinson
will return.
The Spanish World Cup Winner is set for a
move away from the Santiago Bernabeu this
summer, according to the Times .
Madrid have signed Danilo and with Dani
Carvajal already at the club, Arbeloa’s days
look numbered.
The 32-year-old Champions League winner
will be allowed to leave and he could be
tempted by a move to Upton Park.

David de Gea may end up staying at Manchester united

David de Gea could end up staying at
Manchester United as Real Madrid are
struggling to push through a transfer.
The Spanish stopper’s move was thought to
be a done deal but negotiations have been
tense all summer.
United want £31.9million but Madrid have
only gone as high as £14.2m so far.
The Red Devils are unwilling to budge on
the fee for the stopper and would rather see
him leave for free, according to
Tuttomercatoweb .
If United struggled to do business over the
stopper, it may have implications on Sergio
Ramos’ potential move.
Madrid may choose to not strike a deal over
Ramos or they may use him as leverage to
seal the move of his compatriot

Aguero backs Messi to shine

The Argentina striker - a close friend of his
compatriot - says the Barcelona star is always
striving to succeed and commented on his Man
City future
Argentina forward Sergio Aguero has lauded Lionel
Messi's goalscoring persistence as they bid to win
the Copa America together.
Aguero, 27, and Messi, 28, have played together for
a decade internationally - at youth and senior level
- winning the 2008 Olympics and the 2005
Under-20 World Cup alongside each other.
Having come so close to World Cup glory last
summer - losing to Germany in the final in extra-
time - Argentina are now the clear favourites to
win the Copa America following the elimination of
rivals Brazil.

Casillas flattered by Roma interest

With his position as Real Madrid No.1 under threat
due to David de Gea's potential arrival, the
goalkeeper's agent has talked up the Serie A club
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is "flattered"
by interest from Roma , his agent claims, as the
Spanish club's pursuit of David de Gea continues.
Casillas, 34, was the Blancos' preferred shot
stopper in 2014-15 but had spent the previous two
seasons in and out of the starting line-up under
both Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.
With all signs pointing towards Madrid bringing in
De Gea from Manchester United this summer,
Casillas will have to review his options if he wants
to be playing first-team football regularly.
Reports in Italy have suggested Serie A's distant
runners-up Roma have targeted Casillas as their
new No.1 and the Spain international's agent has
welcomed the Giallorossi's attention.
"Roma are a top team and Casillas is flattered by
their interest," Carlo Cutropia told LaRoma24.it .
"Roma are one of the greatest clubs in Europe. We
really love the city and the passion of their fans."
Roma's first-choice goalkeeper last season was
Morgan De Sanctis but Rudi Garcia is believed to
have highlighted the position as one in need of a
revamp after the club fell out of the title race
alarmingly in 2015.
After an excellent first half of the campaign in
which they remained within touching distance of
Italian champions Juventus, Roma only won only
eight out of 22 Serie A matches this calendar year.

Van Gaal angry over De Gea rumour

The Manchester United manager was by a reporter
from a Spanish television channel but the
Dutchman declined to discuss the club's transfer
business
Louis van Gaal has admitted he is angry with the
speculation about David de Gea's future at
Manchester United during a bizarre telephone
conversation which has been aired on a Spanish
television channel.
A reporter from Cuatro called the Dutchman at his
home in Amsterdam to ask about De Gea’s future
at Old Trafford, as well as United’s interest in
Sergio Ramos.
Van Gaal was typically curt with his responses and
maintained that he would not openly discuss
United’s transfer business, although he did initially
admit to being angered by the rumours
surrounding his No.1 goalkeeper.
