Javier Hernandez undergoes Surgery
The Manchester United and Mexico striker
fractured his collarbone during his country's 0-0
friendly draw with Honduras but is now recovering
after his operation
Mexico and Manchester United striker Javier
Hernandez has undergone successful surgery on a
fractured collarbone that has ruled him out of the
Concacaf Gold Cup.
Hernandez, who spent last season on loan at Real
Madrid, suffered the setback during Wednesday's
0-0 friendly draw with Honduras in Houston.
In the closing stage of the first half, Hernandez ran
to collect the ball near the sideline but was pushed
over from behind by Brayan Beckeles and fell on
his right shoulder.
Mexico's chief doctor Gerardo Aguilar later
confirmed that the 27-year-old would be
unavailable for the Gold Cup, which begins on July
7, and an update on his progress was issued on
Thursday.
The Mexican Football Federation posted on Twitter:
"Javier Hernandez's surgery was successfully
concluded. The player is postoperative recovery."
The injury is particularly untimely for Hernandez as
his future at Old Trafford remains shrouded in
doubt.
Goal understands the 27-year-old will seek talks
to clarify his United future once he returns to pre-
season training and wants a final decision made
before Louis van Gaal's men embark on their tour
of the USA.
