Matteo Darmian’s transfer to Manchester
United is pretty much done now, if reports
are to be believed.
It’s been a pretty old-school, under-the-
radar move from United, with it looking
increasingly like they used Nathaniel Clyne
as a smokescreen to capture the Italy
international.
But one question remains – who exactly is
he?
England fans may remember him tearing
Leighton Baines a new one at the World
Cup, but there’s more to him than just that.
Here’s why he’s going to be a brilliant
signing for United.
7. He’s got an incredible touch.
Gone are the days of Antonio Valencia
knocking the ball miles ahead of him – this
guy knows how to control a ball.
Got a half-decent finish on him too. Bet
Clyne couldn’t do this…
What’s that, you’re not convinced about his
touch? Check this out then.
Outrageous.
6. He’s a one-man counter attack.
Under Fergie, United were all about the
counter attack, with Rooney, Ronaldo and
co. flooding forward.
Those days have disappeared a bit under
LVG, but Darmian could probably bring
them back on his own.
Ahh, the good old days…
5. He can finish.
Pretty much no-one in United’s current
defence is capable of scoring, but Darmian
can change that.
Looks like he’s one of those players that
just whacks it as hard as he can – seems
to work, though.
4. He’s rapid.
This boy can seriously shift.
His speed can do damage at either end of
the pitch – as Baines found out to his
detriment at the World Cup.
Quick, attack-minded…he’s perfect.
3. He doesn’t make mistakes.
United fans have had enough of error-prone
defenders.
Better than Clyne in another department
then…
2. He’s a lovely bloke.
Darmian’s confirmed he’s leaving Torino,
and he’s written an emotional farewell letter
to the fans to mark his departure.
The day has come, after 3 years fantastic
leave Turin.
Wonderful three years where I learned to
play, have fun and I learned above all to
live! It is thanks to my teammates and my
fans who have become so, a player tried
from all over Europe, is only about you
and Mr. Ventura, more than a coach to
me, the second father.
Right now I have no words, I’m just
crying. Remember that I leave Turin for a
future career choice, not because I am
evil. Turin will always be my second
home, I never tire of her (Turin). I wish
good luck to all the team and the fans.
This is not a goodbye, but a see you
later. In these three years we went back
to Serie A, we won against Juventus after
20 years and we are back in the so-called
Europe League.
I think to go away with a clear
conscience affixed, at least I hope so. I
did for this team, I gave all of my heart
and my soul. It was an honor to play for
Torino and also be in a few games the
captain!
I think the love I gave to this city, will be
returned in a few parts.
Thanks for everything Turin!
Aw.
1. The omens are really, really
good.
The last only player to sign for United from
Torino? A certain Denis Law.
