Frank Lampard leaves Man City

Whilst the hysteria may have focussed
around the departure of Steven Gerrard last
weekend, this weekend the Premier League
said goodbye to a different English midfield
legend.
After winning three Premier League titles,
four FA Cups, the Champions League and
Europa League Frank Lampard bowed out
from English football.
Frank Lampard signed off his career in
England in style scoring his 177th Premier
League goal. It was fitting that it was a
trademark Lampard goal that fans of
Chelsea have seen throughout his career.
He helped get the move going and then
arrived at the right place at the right time to
blast the ball home.
After seemingly leaving these shores the
previous season in a low key exit from
Stamford Bridge, he snuck back in
confusing circumstances to play for
Manchester City.
This decision may have left Chelsea fans
with mixed emotions, particularly after he
scored against the Blues but they did not
forget his talent or contribution to the club.
During their title celebrations Stamford
Bridge did not forget Lampard as his name
rang out on several occasions during the
game. He was also mentioned in the
farewell speech given by Didier Drogba.
It seems fitting that two of the iconic
players of a generation who have competed
so fiercely and contributed so much to the
game would retire on the same day.
Whilst Lampard did not quite get the same
level of coverage as Gerrard he has
received a wide range of plaudits and
tributes from top players and managers.
Both will be huge draws when they arrive in
the United States.
At 36 Lampard has shown this season that
he is still top quality, however the time has
come and he will finally head off to the MLS
and the swansong of his career.
Although he has not retired English football
will not be the same without Lampard.
