Newcastle United not up for sale

The Magpies owner gave a rare televised interview
on Sunday and insists that he will not be
looking
to cash in on the club despite their slip down the
standings
Mike Ashley says he will not sell Newcastle United
for any price and will not even consider the
prospect of leaving the club until they have won
silverware or qualified for the Champions League.
A section of Newcastle supporters have vocally
opposed Ashley's ownership of the club, arranging
protests against the Sports Direct tycoon, with a
mass walk-out taking place earlier this season to
protest against a perceived lack of investment.
Ashley, though, insists that he does not intend to
sell up - despite calls for him to do so - and says
that he will not sell up until silverware, or
qualification for Europe's elite club competition, is
secured.
"[My ambition is] now going to be definitely to win
something, and by the way I shan't be selling it
until I do," said the Newcastle owner in a rare
interview with Sky Sports .
"Not at any price and by the way when I say win
something, if we ever get in the position where we
get a Champions League place that also qualifies
as winning something."
Ashley has conceded that he is ultimately
responsible for the dramatic dip in form Newcastle
have suffered - saying it lands at "his door" - but
he says that he will continue to pump money into
the club if they are relegated to the Championship
on the final day of the season.
"If you're talking about investing in the club I will
continue the policy of investing in the football
club," he added.
Ashley also says that he will have little input into
the club's search for John Carver's successor,
when his tenure at the club comes to an end.
"On that basis it's Lee Charnley and the football
board that make those decisions as it was Derek
Llambias who brought in Alan Pardew," he said.
"I will not be picking the next manager, it is not
what I do. My job is to make sure they have the
maximum amount of financial resources and it't
their job to get the best pound for pound value out
of those resources."
