Milan confirms Ancelotti contact

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has
confirmed the club have been in contact with
Carlo Ancelotti regarding a return to San Siro,
but says they have alternatives lined up.
Ancelotti, who was dismissed by Real Madrid
on Monday , is the club's first choice to
replace current boss Filippo Inzaghi.
But with Ancelotti having said he would take a
year off should he lose his job in the Spanish
capital, Berlusconi confirmed the Rossoneri
are eyeing some high-profile back-ups.
"We are in contact with Ancelotti but we have
prepared four alternatives: one abroad, the
others in Italy,” he told La Gazzetta dello
Sport.
"We hope he'll come back to Milan,” he added
in a radio interview on Tuesday. “I'm optimistic
and so is [CEO Adriano] Galliani.”
Ancelotti won two European Cups with the club
as a player with the club before leading them
to a further two as coach during an eight-year
spell in the dugout.
Inzaghi was promoted from youth-team coach
to take his first senior role but has failed to
secure European football in what has been
disappointing season for the club.
Unai Emery, another contender for the Milan
post, led Sevilla to a fifth-place finish in Spain
and is on the verge of back-to-back Europa
League crowns after seeing off Fiorentina to
book a place in the final against Dnipro.
Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Montella is also reported
to have made Milan’s shortlist, along with Italy
boss Antonio Conte.
