Barcelona chase next Puyol

EXCLUSIVE: The Catalans are hot on the heels of a
17-year-old they believe could be the retired
defender's long-term replacement
By Kilian Caballero
Barcelona are chasing CMD San Juan centre-back
Carlos Gavino - a player who has been dubbed
'the next Puyol', Goal understands.
The youngster has emerged as one of the best
prospects in Spain and caught the eye of the
Catalans despite playing in the country's
fourth
tier.
Barca are keen to sign him as soon as possible
amid interest from Sevilla, Betis, Almeria and
Recreativo de Huelva.
At just under six-foot-two inches tall, Osorno
would bring an additional physical presence, while
his courage and leadership have earned him the
nickname 'Puyol' amongst his team-mates.
Barca have been searching for a young, left-sided
centre-back for two years and believe he
possesses the necessary style and qualities to
adapt to the club's technical style.
Gavino is yet to sign a professional deal and could
be available on a free transfer, with the Blaugrana
confident of signing him despite their transfer ban
which runs until 2016.
