Barcelona don't need Madrid stars - Freixa

The presidential candidate ruled out the arrival of
the defender at Camp Nou despite recent reports
he might be swapping Clasico clubs
Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa would
refuse signing Sergio Ramos or any other Real
Madrid player if he is elected.
The former Blaugrana board member, who served
during the terms of current rivals Joan Laporta and
Josep Maria Bartomeu before being sacked by the
latter in October 2014, is in the running for the
main post.
And the former amateur footballer looked to
strengthen his position before the elections on July
18 by insisting he would not look to bring in a
player from their Clasico arch-rivals.
"Nobody has offered us Ramos. The club currently
needs no player from Real Madrid," he said in an
interview with Onda Cero.
Freixa then took a dig at major rival Bartomeu,
whom he fell out with while at the club, stating any
successful signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder
Koke could hardly be used to his credit.
"I am sure that if Koke wants to come to Barcelona
he will come, if he wants to, with or without
Bartomeu," he said. "I do not think you have to
start the election campaign focusing on names,
but more a management model."
The candidate promised to rejuvenate La Masia as
part of his election campaign and revealed he
would hire Eric Abidal - the club's prospective new
sporting director if Laporta is re-elected - as well if
he were to triumph.
"Abidal is a person whom I know and admire,"
Freixa added. "He is a symbol and an emblem. If I
win the elections and am president, we have
reserved a role for him certainly."
