The academy director feels the 21-year-old's
inability to nail down a place in the starting XI at
FCB was down to his lack of patience rather than
related to his ability
Bayern Munich youth academy director Heiko
Vogel does not feel that current Liverpool
midfielder Emre Can failed at the Bavarians.
The Germany Under-21 international was widely
regarded as one of the most promising talents
around at the club in his younger years, but failed
to secure regular first-team action at FCB and
eventually left for Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, before
joining Liverpool after one season at the BayArena.
Nevertheless, Vogel does not see Can's inability to
become a key player at Bayern as failure on the
player's behalf and feels the midfielder simply
decided to walk a different path to make a name
for himself in the game.
"I do not think Emre Can was not worthy of the
high expectations [surrounding him during his time
at Bayern]," Vogel was quoted as saying by TZ .
"Maybe he did not give himself enough time to
succeed at Bayern. He might have thought it would
have been easier to achieve his goals at
Leverkusen.
"But I would most certainly not say he has failed
at Bayern."
Can has developed into a valued first-team
member at Liverpool since his move ahead of the
2014-15 campaign, making 40 appearances in all
competitions in his maiden campaign.
