Mexico Boss admits Hernandez mix-up

El Tri's trainer explained that he was unsure of
who to approach for permission to play the striker
in Chile and the Gold Cup
Mexico coach Miguel Herrera has revealed that
Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández could have played at
Copa América 2015 had there not been a mix-up
over his call-up.
With El Tri also competing at the Gold Cup this
summer, the 47-year-old opted to omit the
Manchester United forward from the Chile
tournament, along with other high-profile names
like Carlos Vela and Andres Guardado.
Mexico were eliminated from the Copa after picking
up only two points from Group A, but Herrera has
now admitted that there was no clear chain of
command to get permission to feature players
across both competitions.
“We didn’t know who to talk to in order to ask for
Chicharito to play at either the Copa América or the
Gold Cup,” he said at a press conference in
Orlando.
“We would love to have had Chicharito with us, but
the ‘what might have been’ doesn’t exist.”
Mexico began their Copa campaign with a goalless
draw against Bolivia, then split points again with
Chile in a 3-3 result, before falling 2-1 to Ecuador,
which ended their qualification hopes.
