The coach believes the striker would fit perfectly
into his style of play, while also revealing he is
close to sealing a deal for Villarreal's Luciano
Vietto
Diego Simeone has revealed Atletico Madrid have
made contact with the agent of
Juventus striker Carlos Tevez.
The striker has a year left to run on his contract in
Turin and has so far failed to reach an agreement
with the Bianconeri over a new deal.
As a result, Atletico and several other clubs have
been tipped to make a move for the player and
Simeone admitted he would love to work with the
31-year-old.
"The truth is that I have not spoken to Tevez. But I
know the club are talking to his agent," revealed
the coach to AS. "It's always exciting to be able to
count on players like Tevez.
"His contributions extend beyond the number of
goals he is capable of scoring. His temperament
would make him ideal for Atletico, given the way
he and the club live football."
Tevez is not the only attacking Argentine addition
being linked with the club, with Simeone also
revealing he is close to agreeing a deal
with Villarreal for Luciano Vietto.
"He [Vietto] is a goal of ours, and we are close [to
an agreement]," continued the trainer. "His signing
would be a major boost, as he is a player with
extraordinary characteristics.
"He reminds me greatly of [former Atletico striker
David] Villa, with his way of playing between the
lines rare in football today. I knew him even before
I took charge of him at Racing, and gave his
debut."
Simeone also had words of praise for his current
strikeforce, stating the team have "no problems
there" and explaining the club's troubles in front of
goal had not been their fault.
"This year, [Antoine] Griezmann scored 22 while
[Mario] Mandzukic managed 12. [Fernando] Torres
is accustomed to being very competitive and
improved us when he joined," he concluded.
"Instead, our midfield had difficulty scoring
compared to the previous year. Now, I have great
expectations for the campaign ahead, as we will
have even more tactical options after a complex
last season."
